Hello all, I have read over a lot of posts in this forum, and I felt as though I had a firm enough grasp on things to begin firing off letters to get things started. Here is what I did: I sent validation letters for the following accounts: * Paid collection from '99 (letter to CA) * Repossession from '96 (letter to OC) * Unpaid collection from '96 (letter to CA) (OC no longer exists on this one) * Unpaid collection from '96 (letter to CA) * Unpaid collection from '98 (letter to CA) At the same time I sent dispute to the three CRA's: * Removal of all personal information except current address and correct name * Unpaid collection from '97 * Unknown account (not mine) from '98 * Unpaid collection from '96 (same as the one I sent a validation letter to) (the reason I did this is because it appears twice) (on my experian report) I sent all these off CRRR today 10/11/02. I just want to make sure that I didn't hastily put myself in a bad position in any way, and also what is the next step after this? Based on what I've read here so far, the most damaging things on my report are the repo and the charge-offs. Which is why I decided to deal with those with validation letters to have them prove that I owe the debt. Is my logic faulty here, or am I on the right track? Any advice/opinions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance!
First off, welcome to the board. Now, you need to go to the top of the threads and read the top 3. Then, you need to read the FDCPA and the FCRA. If you need to ask what is next, that tells me you really don't understand what or why you are doing these things. In my opinion, you did things backwards. I would have sendt disputes only to the the cra's. Then when you get the results, you would know who is gone and who you need to send validation letters to. Hopefully, it will work the way you did it. Next time, may I suggest before you jump into something, if you really aren't sure which way to go, ask BEFORE you do something.
Well stated LKH. Remember, asking if you did something right AFTER you've done it doesn't really help you - you can't undo what you've already done.
For example, suppose now we said, OMG you REALLY screwed up and will probably end up in jail, what would you do? ~
Thanks for the welcome. I understand that asking after the fact is not the best policy. However, I did ask the question knowing that I would receive some negative feedback. Despite this, I still needed an answer; which you provided, so thanks for that. More specifically, I was asking what others experiences were that did things the way I have. On a positive note: I sent a good will letter via email to one of my creditors the night before last. They responded yesterday saying that they are requesting a deletion from the three CRAs! Score one for the home team! Thanks for the replies again, I'm glad that I found a place where I can get help from wonderful people and finally get my credit life back on track!!
