Has anyone had any experience with this card? I dug up one message using the search function that stated Mobil is easy to get and reports to the 3 CRA's.

    Thanks for your comments.

    A couple of points:

    (1) Someone stated that Mobil is now issued by Monogram, the same bank that issues Exxon. This makes sense, because Exxon acquired Mobil a couple of years ago. Mobil used to be issued in house, I think. Anyway, the Web site would disclose whether Monogram issues the card now. If that's the case, then previous generalizations about Mobil may no longer apply.

    (2) Exxon was NOT easy for me to obtain from Monogram. They pulled Experian, which is my worst report, and turned me down cold. Of course, there are a couple of bogus chargeoffs, purportedly from 2/00, on that report.

Chevron is easy to obtain and they are merging with Texaco so it is possible that you may be able to use the card at both places.

    RE: Chevron, Texaco, Shell

Good point. Texaco was easier for me to obtain than was Chevron. In other words, I got their pre-approved offer about six months earlier. As far as acceptance, my Texaco and Shell cards are now interchangeable as of 1/1/2001. Both cards are issued by Associates.

I suspect that Associates wiil take over the Chevron card too, raising the interest rate in the process, but not for a year or two. Then each of the three cards may be usable at the other two chains.

I haven't investigated Chevron, but I know the Associates web site very well, and checked it again just now. Both Texaco and Shell (as well as BP, Amoco, and Citgo) are offered on the site, with fairly simple online applications.

Go to THEAssociates.com, not associates.com, and notice the "quick links" in the upper right corner. From there on, it's a breeze.

By the way, Texaco checked Experian before I got the card, which is not my best report. There were 3 collections on there, and I easily got two cards from Texaco/Associates via preapproved offers. So the card is not that hard to get. They just give you a much smaller cash advance limit if you have marginal (I won't say bad) credit.
