Money-saving tip Hi all. I'm getting hits on my website Datingamy.com from here, so I wanted to check out the forum. I wish I had known about this place when I was struggling with creditors years ago. No credit advice, but one thing I've been doing with trying to save money is I sat down and called everyone I owe monthly bills to and asked for reductions. From the people at my gym to my ISP to the phone company to my landlord. The ONLY one who said no to some sort of reduction was my long-distance phone carrier. I was telling some friends and they also said if you call your credit card cos. you can reduce your interest rates if you're in good standing. Probably remedial advice for here, though. Anyway, thanks to those of you who are supporting me (unless you sent me hate mail, then no thanks!) Amy
Re: Money-saving tip I think for me one of the biggest hurdles in getting my credit straightened out was to not go back to the same habits that got me in debt in the first place. Questioning bills and renegotiating contracts didn't come naturally to me, but you can really reduce your monthly expenses by doing so.
Re: Money-saving tip Can you explain how you renegotiated contracts? Did you do it by phone, mail etc. Thanks
Re: Money-saving tip LKH, I just did it by phone. For the landlord you have to actually sign a new lease, but it's no big deal. My gym had me sign a different contract too, but both the apt and the gym are month-to-month, so I wasn't committing to longer than I wanted. For my ISP, for instance, they gave me a bunch of months free and actually reversed some recent monthly charges on my credit card. Friends of mine have called up AT&T, for instance, and said they were taking their business elsewhere and had ATT send them a check for $75. A friend of mine who's a landlord told me it's *really* common for tenants to renegotiate and ask for special $$ favors -- I would never have thought of it before, though. The way I see it is that a lot of prices for things were set in the 'old economy' (2000) and many people are in a different financial situation now (2002).
Re: Money-saving tip It was probably me who posted the url. I love these begging websites. I'm an Internet panhandling wannabe. Are you making any money (if I may ask)?
Re: Money-saving tip Maybe I should auction off my hubby on my site Amy- Can I ask is your landlord a corporation or a Joe Schmoe? BTW- thanks to a few certain CNetter's, I beat saveKayn's first week totals Thanks guys!
Re: Money-saving tip As far as I know I haven't made a penny yet. You wouldn't believe the abuse you get. Some guys from San francisco told me my breasts aren't big enough! Sheesh. I got something like 5500 hits in my first 5 days and the site isn't even listed w/any search engines yet, so am thinking I may be able to attract advertisers eventually?
Re: Money-saving tip Don't auction the hubby off just yet. With winter coming, you may need him for warmth, etc. My landlord is a Joe Schmoe, but owns about 6 bldgs (that I know of) of 12-30 units each. They call themselves an LLC. Great about making $$. You're probably doing it w/o the snippy emails, too. I am reeling...

Re: Money-saving tip Well, hey, just keep updating it with funny stuff. Make some cool pictures. Make them all want to see what happens next. People need a chuckle, and if you attract a lot of people you can get advertisers.
Re: Money-saving tip kHM, How is your site? I'm at 10,000 hits (1st week) and haven't made a dime. I'm really pissed as these other sites are making money by their 300th hit. I'm thinking of scrapping the whole $ idea and just being a 50 dates thing. How is your 'asking to have bills reduced' coming? I think I've saved about $380 so far... also, forgot to mention that my isp reversed charges from months ago -- so often vendors say they can't do that... like it's physically impossible or something. Re: Money-saving tip 50G would buy quite a set of knockers lol i cant believe i said that out loud. From a professional standpoint, you need more pics, i'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but hey why not. I'd bet if the pics were right, and tiered by donation level you'd start raking in money. Maybe some custom pics lol
Re: Money-saving tip Ha! Thanks Sam. It was a gay male couple who complained about my chest, btw. Everyone is saying I need more pics. Not sure what I'm trying to accomplish? I want 50K and am going on 50 dates (the 50 dates are the content of the site). Don't know how much clearer I can be. Tiered by donation level...? I'm not sending out nude pics as it says in my FAQ. Ha! Really, thanks for the feedback. Still wondering why these other begging sites are making money while not having elaborate pictures, etc. Amy www.datingamy.com
Re: Money-saving tip Did you put the story about the gay male couple on the website? Put some of the comments up, and put a disclaimer up that you may use people's emails for content. That might get you a following.... any other good emails??
