Before CreditNet, I had: Providian MC ($1000 CL, 27.99%, no grace period) Cap 1 Platinum MC ($500 CL) Fleet Classic Visa ($500 CL) No one else would approve me for anything. One year later, I have - BofA Plat. ($3000 CL) Amex Blue ($2000 CL) Amex Gold Rewards GM Platinum MC ($3000 CL) Corvette MC ($2000 CL) Dell ($4000 CL, helped get my cool flat panel monitor!) Bloomingdale's ($400 CL) Providian raised my limit to $2008 at 23.99%, and now I have a grace period (LOL), plus the special rate until Feb. 2004; Fleet won't upgrade me to platinum, but raised my limit by $1800; and Cap 1 hasn't done squat. I will be closing them today. I haven't gotten the huge limits I've seen people get for the same cards, but it's a nice start for me, so I'm done applying for anything for the next 2 years. At least all of these inquiries will drop at the same time, LOL Rejected by Chase, Citibank and MBNA. Oh well. EXP - 695 EFX - 670 TU - 680 Scores are probably lower now, due to the inquiries and new accounts.
.... That's great progress in a year. I think you need to worry less about the inquiries than about your average age of accounts.
Thanks, RichGuy - Never in a million years did I think I'd ever get an Amex card, since I screwed up my student one about 10 years ago. It feels good to have prime cards! (Although my Fleet card feels sub-prime.) I know my debt ratios have gone down, so that should help; now it's just a matter of time for those new accounts to age. I can't wait to close Capital 1 I'm thinking I need to keep Providian open, since it's my oldest open account (1999). Cap 1 is only a year old, with a $59 fee and low limit.
Citichick, It must feel great, especially the Amex Blue card. You're doing so well that you obviously don't need the Cap One card. If the annual fee is coming due soon, I can understand why you're in a hurry to close it. Wishing you continued success,
Well done - doesn't it make your efforts seem worthwile! P.S. Being rejected by Chase is nothing to worry about - they're no great loss. Neil
Congratulations. I agree that being turned down by Chase is not a bad deal. I would be glad to be turned down my MBNA as well. I don't like either of them. Citi is another story. I'd fight to try to get them.
I'm ECSTATIC about the Blue card!! Feels great after being shot down by Citi, MBNA and Fleet (and I bank with Fleet - go figure). I'm also very happy about BofA, since I've read so many good things about them. I just called Cap 1 and closed my account. The CSR kept asking questions about why I was closing the account, but didn't offer me any better terms. Glad to have lightened the load
I got rejected after 2 reconsiderations, so I considered them a lost cause. However, my BF banks with them, and also has their platinum MC - which I will probably become an authorized user for when we get married. So Chase is stuck with me either way, LOL
MBNA was very rude and snotty, and made me feel like crap, so I would never apply for anything from them again. I tried to get the alumni MC from my college, and the credit analyst shot me down for a bad Crap 1 account from 5+ years ago. I don't like Citi, either - they knew I was on their blacklist but continued to pull hards on my TU anyway. They're also holding a bad student account from 10 years ago against me, and the CSR suggested I try again in 2006. Thanks for the Congrats!!!
If you have someone with good credit get on any of his accounts as an AU as soon as possible and this will go onto your credit files...
