I had a contentious conversation with an Equifax rep. She asked if I wanted to dispute something and I told her, "No. Not at this time." During this same conversation the rep REFUSED to give me the address of a company trashing my report with a bogus collection. I told her that was an actionable offense in so many words. A few days later, I checked my report online and saw that the entries discussed were now under dispute, but I didn't initiate the dispute. Several days later, I got the updated report in the mail saying that the items were under dispute. Yes, these are still the items I told her I did NOT want to dispute at that time. Several weeks later, I noticed that one of the items under phantom dispute was updated/re-verified. I called and asked how the item was verified and requested procedures and the rep claimed it was never under dispute! I asked her, "If it wasn't under dispute, why do I have a report in my hand noting it as under dispute?" She replied that she didn't know why I had that, but it was never under dispute. WHAT?! Oh, I get it. Put it under dispute so that I can't dispute it and then weeks later--as I'm waiting for my results--flip the script and say it was never under dispute after all. End result? I've just had 4 weeks of my life wasted. It's a wearing down technique to frustrate you and confuse you and waste your goddamned time. As if to say, "Hey, once you start f*cking with us, who KNOWS what will happen. Better keep quiet, b*tches." Shady.
