I searched and found an older post about this, but just wanted to ask again in case someone knows something different, or something has changed.

If we are current with a payment plan to payoff federal taxes from two and three years ago, will this have any effect on our attempt to get a mortgage?

    What about an FHA mortgage?

When you are factoring up all your debt for the mortgage people, do you include the IRS monthly payment? It does not show up on a credit report.

    Thanking in advance.

Did you get a written agreement from the IRS that they would not report it as long as you're current with pmts.?

    ???

Personally, I would not put declear anything that is not on the credit report unless there is another way for them to find out.

If the tax thing is on credit report, then they may find out or ask questions.

Hum ... not sure. I'd have to go back and read the agreement papers.

We got into this payment arrangement more than a year ago, so I didn't know then what I know now.

But I do know this ... reporting it to the credit bureau never came up in all the conversations I had with IRS people.

I was always under the impression that if I didn't keep my payments current then they would place on "tax lien" on something ... don't know what, though, since I don't own a home.
Maybe my car? Or garnish my wages? Something like that. Don't know why I think that, though.

delilah, I dealt with the IRS for back taxes owed. It never showed up on my CR's. This was about 6 years ago, and we made payment arrangements with them. Hope this helps.

    psp in nm --

Did it affect your ability to get a mortgage or was it factored into the mortgage process at all?

That's my core question -- can I get a house with this payment plan.

    thanks.
