We just got a mortgage this year, and nothing happened when it hit, all the scores remained the same.

It depends on a lot of things, one of them being length of history. For example, I have a lot of lines over 20 years old, and I have a lot of available credit. So a mortgage reporting won't hurt me as much as someone with little or new credit. I have a lot of accounts, so one new one doesn't pull my average length down much.
