    Hi Everyone,

I am moving back to the USA after living abroad for the last ten years. I started thinking about my credit when I get back and began serching the net. I then found this forum, WOW! what a bunch of wonderful people here! I have been reading and following for the past week and finally decided to get up the courage to register and post. So here goes, I will try to keep it short.

I have made mistakes, and have had some bad luck in my life with credit. And now the we have decided to move back to the USA I have some questions that I hope could be addressed here in this wonderful forum.

In 92 my wife got home sick (After living in the US for 3 years) so we moved to her homeland (another country) and everything was going good for three years then I got bad sick and couldnt work for one year, then unemployed for 1 year. THings just went downhill FAST!

In 95 went into 15k debt, 10k belongs to citibank (In this Country), I finally got another job and have been paying off ever since. We have finally got it down to 8k, and then I finally talked my wife into moving back to USA (10 years away from home is enough). I have a good job waiting for me and everything (Except for Credit) seems to be falling into place for a good start. So here are some of my problems and then some questions.

    Problems:

CU loan in 1982, charged off

    never had a credit card

car loan in 91,10k,paid 2k, repo in 92

    Hospital bill $900 in 92

left unpaid rent ($500) in 92

8k Left here in this country

    Questions:

    1. Should I give my address overseas when asking for my credit report?

    2. Do they check credit overseas?

    3. Does Citibank report international?

    4. Will any of the above problems still haunt me?

    5. Any Suggestions on how I should handle my rebuilding?

    6. How do you get scores when all the online companies want credit cards to use them, and living overs seas?

    thanks in advance,

    jdog

Hi! Welcome to the board & back to the USA.

Negatives entries may remain for up to 7 years max on your report, so it seems you're in the clear.

When you come back, get your reports & scores, and if those negatives still appear dispute them.

Welcome to CreditNet and welcome back to the States.

I agree with Rina but think you may find you still have a couple items to take care of when you return beyond those affected by the 7 year statute. Most likely the Citibank listing. The others should be fairly easy since as she pointed out, the 7 year reporting statute has run out.

As for your address etc, I do not know. Were I you, I would avoid divulging the overseas address (unless you have to) since that would relate to the Citi chargeoff...but you may find it difficult to prove you are you without providing a past address that they have on file.

They may request that you send them proof that you are you and you reside at your new US address. That would include something like a photocopy of your SS card, a photocopy of your DL license, and a photocopy of a utility bill from your new US address. These items may not be available to you yet, but they will most likely be required to get your reports from the CRA's.

As for the online systems showing your scores...you probably will not be able to log in to them until you get the CRA's clear on your new US address and can obtain your hard copy reports. Then you will have no problem accessing your score.

    Again welcome and Good Luck,

    -Peace, Dave

    Hi Rina,

WOW, thanks for the quick reply. I hope everything goes ok. I guess the main thing that I am worried about is them checking the credit here (in this country) from the states. Since a good chunck of it is Citibank.

Hope someone can help me with this one.

    Thanks again

    Hey Dave,

Thanks for your post. The citibank account here is what worries me the most. What I dont know is if I apply for credit in the States now if the citibank from here will show there? I guess I will find out in 9 days, thats when I fly.

    Thanks Dave

What country are you moving back from?

I know some of the 3 major CRA's here operate in oversea countries, but I am not sure of the reciprocity of information. Maybe there are others here who have moved back as you have and can help. Bottom line, you will only know after you return and see (as you say).

Have you established an address and hooked up utilities yet in the states? If so, you could order your reports as soon as you have the evidence together to prove you are you (isn't that a strange thing to have to prove :) and begin the process so that the reports are waiting for you when you arrive. You may need your drivers license but a photocopy of your passport may work as well (what address is on your passport?)

Have a safe trip, we will be here for you and try and help out when you get the reports.

    Dave,

I am living in Germany and will be moving to Florida.

I have an appointment with a realty co. the day after I get back to Rent a house. So after thats done then I get the lights turned on (which I understand if you have no credit you have to pay a $140 deposit with FPL!) and then get a phone and then get online (I am taking my computer with me, I would go CRAZY without it!) and try to get my reports.

IN MY OPINION~~~IT'S BETTER TO PAY A DEPOSIT than have to live with an INQUIRY for 2 years...

Your credit shoud be clean (No credit history) due the 7 year mark.

You should apply for some creditcards like Capital One secured or FCNB or go to your bank and apply for a secured loan. Put your new address, tel, etc.
then if you are denied for any card just send a copy of the denial letter along with a copy of your DR license and utility bill (If any) to the credit bureaus and ask for a copy of your report.
