My wife and I are moving to Florida due to job transfer this summer of 2004.

We filed for BK 7 last April 2003, discharged July 2003.

We have Wells Fargo checking and savings accounts... we included our credit union (acct already closed during BK filing) of overdraft protection... 1 ended up NSF which was paid right away but chekSystem lists our file as 1 paid NSF, never had any NSF before just 1 ever! but I understand it'll stay with our file for 5 years! (4 1/2 years to go!!!)

Since there's no Wells Fargo banking anywhere in Florida.

Would it be a problem if say.. opening checking/savings accounts based on BK7 and 1 paid NSF? we guess we have to avoid Bank of America because our BofA credit cards was included in BK7!

    Any advices?

    TIA!

DON'T close checking or savings till you can establish something in FLORIDA!!! YOU CAN BANK BY MAIL...they may even give you postage paid envelopes.

Looks like a hassle but if I have to do it, I will....but, seriously thou' do we have any chance of opening checking/savings account from what we have (BK7 & 1 paid NSF)? If there were Wells Fargo banking branch in Florida.. I wouldn't worry about that but there's no Wells Fargo in Florida :-(

    Thanks!

Thanks... would it be feasible to try to open these accounts over the internet prior to moving...e.g. try to open account next month before summer move?

I am in Florida and we have Banko Popular here. I don't think they rely much on credit history, as most of the customers are immigrants and have no US credit history. I think it is proof of employment driven.

They have tons of branches, and I think all all the teller's are required to speak English.

When I first got out of the Navy and had no credit history, I was able to get an account with them.

I got a Washington Mutual account when I first moved here.
As soon as you get here, get a Florida Driver's License. Then go to the bank to open an account. I was not able to open an account in Missouri, but once I got my Florida driver's license I opened one with no problem. I am assuming they use your license number because mine came back clean. My fiancee did the same at First National. I really believe the new driver's license was the key sine neither of us could get an account before we moved here.

I will be working in Tampa, Florida... I will look for place to live outside city of Tampa, e.g. Unicorportated Hillsborough County or Pasco County.

    Are you sure?

I got e-mail from WaMu today....

    Dear Thomas Gagliano:

    Thank you for your email.

If you were reported to ChexSystems by your previous banks,
unfortunately, Washington Mutual might be unable to open an account for
you. However, it is always advisable to check with the local branch
that you are planning on establishing business with."

I had 1 NSF (paid right away as soon as I was notifed via US Mail) with my former Credit Union but other than that... I never had any NSF in my whole life.. just once!

"IF" they go by DL yours will not match...

Get a NON INTEREST BARRING CHECKING ACCOUNT so they have no reason to ask for SS#

In Tampa I would try SunTrust Bank. They opened a checking for my DH's ex, who bounces more checks a week than normal people do in their whole life. She started with savings and graduated to checking in 6 months.

At www.suntrust.com they have a customer questions form, it surely won't hurt to ask.

I'm almost positive Wa Mu goes by DL#. They asked for my SSN, but I was still able to open an account. I have negs with Chexsystems.

Get your DL first, then go in there to open the account.
