I am very disappointed. I called Mr. Cooke's direct line today and reminded him of his promise to increase my CL in December. Well, he didn't recall that promise but he did recall telling me about the "proactive cl increase" thing. I asked him does this only apply to the secured marble card? Because I have read where they have increased limits on the phone. He responded this is the policy with all cards. I reminded him that he took me off secured status this past summer. He spoke some smooth words about Cap 1's commitment to all it's card holders and how the "policy of Cap 1 is to be very conservative" with their credit line increases. I read between the lines and what he was really saying was if you came in on the secured card, you will forever be treated as a secured card holder - even if they remove secured card status from your account. That sux. I told him I would be closing this account since it is of no use to me. I am not wasting my time waiting around for a review that may never come. In the meantime, other creditors can not see my credit limit. This card is a joke. Goodbye Cap1!
I am still very much a Diva, thank you which is why I am closing this worthless account - because I can. *Smooches!*
Hey, I could have told you this 2 years ago. I too tried to get Mr. Cooke to do a CLI increase on my Cap 1 'Green Marble' card. Perfect payment history for 7+ years. The only thing to show for my efforts was a $300.00 CLI and three hard inqs. I have not seen an increase since than. It's just sitting on my desk to remind me of the long journey that I have taken. Best regards, Mirage
Close the account in WRITING. If you do close an account spend the $4.42 and send a WRITTEN request via certified mail return receipt requested and get WRITTEN confirmation that the ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED AT CONSUMER REQUEST to be reported to the CRA's.
Close the account in WRITING. I just cant help but wonder why anyone would hold a card where you have to "charge something equal to your limit and return it" in order to get them report somewhat close to accurately. Im sorry but that is just completely f#cked up. If you disagree then perhaps you are relegated to sh*tty terms on credit cards. Perhaps it is time to reexamine your approach.
Re: Close the account in WRITING. BT 99% TO A CARD THAT YOU CAN BT BACK FROM... This too is a BIG HASSLE...BUT IT WORKS!!!
Re: Re: Close the account in WRITING. As long as there is no fee involved! Which is why I like BofA, National City, and Amex Blue.
Re: Re: Close the account in WRITING. But when its your oldest TL and you need it to get the prime cards you want, then you'll have to do it no matter how much it sucks. THen once you have the cards you want, dump them.
Well this isn't true - Capital one was my first credit card, which was partially secured. That deposit was refunded to me sometime ago, and it's now gold with a $2,200 limit. I also have two others accounts with capital one, with comparable lines. Sorry to hear they couldn't help you however.
Re: Re: Mr. Cooke has lost my business How many years have you had the card? $2,200 seems to be a paltry amount for a unsecured "Gold" card. American Express gave me that amount with my first card. Glad you're happy with Cap 1
SubPrime Account Pricing Just like mortgages, Credit card accounts are priced and often sold out to the secondary market. Also, banks have to worry about Federal regulators regarding the credit quality - (i.e. your FICO Score ) - of the credit card holders. Unfortunately, your account is valued at THE FICO SCORE WHEN THE ACCOUNT WAS OPENED. So, if your account was sub-prime it WILL ALWAYS REMAIN SUBPRIME. You have to close the subprime account and then open up a new prime account.
Re: Re: Re: Mr. Cooke has lost my business Im quite happy with Cap 1 ;-) Had the account for two years. Wether it's paltry or not its more than I need, as now I am no longer interested in limit increases - Just rate reductions. The line was increased to $1,000 at one year, than 6 months later it was increased again by 1200, which brings me to the current $2200. I have no negatives, just not much history. Got about another year before I get that amex.
Re: Re: Mr. Cooke has lost my busin Some of the things CapOne does are pretty weird... I started with a 5K CL with a 2K secured savings account... they then proceeded to offer me another new card every 6 months until I had 4 of them (500, 500, 1000, 1000). They said they could never turn my secured card into unsecured (so I canceled it), but they could raise my other cards to (1000, 1000, 1500, 1500) and then combine them to 5K, eliminate the $29 yearly fee that one of them had, and drop the rate to 9.9%. OK, whatever, I'll take it! (it's one of my older tradelines)
