Does anyone know if it is illegal for a hospital to take each and every little medical bill that is overdue, give it to their collection agency, and then have them report each bill as a collection, thus showing 20 or more collections from the same creditor?
In some states, such as Florida, it is illegal for hospitals to forward healthcare information to third parties. *If* all the billings are legitimate, meaning that insurance was properly billed and the process was smooth (highly unlikely because hospital/medical billings have a notoriously high error rate), there's no reason for the hospital to consolidate all the billings into one grand total. Are you sure all the collection accounts listed are legitimate?
