I just paid an old bill (for mortgage underwriter, sigh) via the original creditor, not the CA it was through. I told them there was NO WAY I was going through the CA since the guy I talked to was totally rude and cursed at me. (wish I had recorded it, I'd sue his ace!) Anyhow, they let me pay them, then told me they couldn't send me a letter confirming it was paid. I asked why, and the guy said "well, the collection agency does that. Ask them". The question is, is an original creditor obligated in any way to send me a balance statement if I insist? I NEED this one for the mortgage guys. Anyone? Thanks, compadres and comadres! -gat
I'm not sure, but couldn't you just show your mortgage people a copy of the cancelled check as proof that you paid the debt? EdG
If I hadn't paid with a credit card! But I guess I could show them my credit card statement. Good idea though. I'd still like opinions...since it's MY info, are they not obligated to send me info? I think I'll call a manager and start frowning loudly at them.
