Right now I am furious. About four weeks ago I booked a hotel through Orbitz.com for a long weekend in Paris (I was there two weeks ago--WONDERFUL TOWN!). Yesterday, I found a charge on my credit card from a company called MWI Connections. I have never done any business with them. What I found out about them is not good. Just do a search on Yahoo! They are scam artists in a league of their own! Anyway, as it turns out, Orbits either released my credit card with the expiration date to MWI Connections or they enrolled me into some subscription program without permission and charged my credit card for this. What nerve! I filed a coplaint with the Better Business Bureau of Illinois (Orbitz is located in Chicago) and the Attorney General's Office for the commonwealth of Massachusetts (I'm from Boston). If you book with Orbitz, don't be suprised if you get billed from MWI Connections for a serivce you did not intend to buy. The joke is, that Congress is thinking about relaxing information on personal financial information. Just what we need!
"Just how MWI got your credit card number is something you may never know ... but the nearest infomercial is a good bet." http://www.consumeraffairs.org/scam_alerts/mwi_who.html
BAH! They billed me too. Grrrrrrr. Thanks for the info above, will go file the complaints. Yah, relax the rules, sure. One of my coworkers went through a security clearance process, they called him today and demanded that he comes to the Embassy for an interview. Turned out about 5 illegal immigrants were using his SSN. This is a guy who shreds everything, keeps his info private, etc. Cool, what's next? PawMix
Its absolutely amazine what these companies get away with. The joke is, Congress is extending the Fair Reporting Act, but will be relaxing rules regarding the release of private information held in company data bases. Today, I was talking to a buddy about what happened. A cop who work in the gym and came over to me and said he had a similar experience with Orbitz. He booked a flight to Ireland about four months ago and two months later he started getting women's magazines. He had no clue who was doing this until I told him. I filed quite a few complaints. But I am sure nothing will be done about this. I may stop using my credit card on line. Furthermore, I was told that someone hacked into Orbitz's data base yesterday and took their client information.
Furthermore, I was told that someone hacked into Orbitz's data base yesterday and took their client information. IS THAT FACT???
I ever use a canceled, expired, etc credit card when I have reserved online(or with Orbitz) in hotels or car rentals. They won´t cancel your reservation until 11pm or something and you will be completely sure that your own credit card number wont be stolen. Don´t use your current cr card for reservations. Only show it when you check in at the hotel or car rental company in person.
