Iâ??ve been reading for weeks and learning so much! Thanks to all of you!

First a little backgroundâ?¦I filed ch 7 in Feb 02, discharged May 02. I surrendered my house, and of course the mortgage co was allowed to foreclose. Since then Iâ??ve moved and changed my name (got married).

I wrote my first letter to Equifax a month ago, requesting correction of several thingsâ?¦They had my middle name spelled incorrectly, my employerâ??s name spelled incorrectly and listed an address where Iâ??ve never lived. In addition to requesting these corrections, I listed about 6 negative TLs, just saying â??the following accounts are reported incorrectly and need verification.â? I had just about given up on hearing back, and in fact had written a second â??30 dayâ? letter (which I think I inadvertently mailed without a stamp. I had it in my mail stack to go to the post office and send certified, and I think I slid it into the mailbox with the regular stamped mail. duh). Got my reply the same afternoon, June 11 (the letter was dated June 7, exactly 31 days after they signed for my letter) I hope I didnâ??t stick a stamp on that letter and it comes back to meâ?¦.

Anyway, my results for the first round were pretty good, I thinkâ?¦.And Iâ??ve ordered Experian, and it has similar mistakes and negatives, so Iâ??m planning to try the same approach with them. Only Iâ??ve been reading about bumpage, and I wondered if it might be better to go ahead and try disputing online for Experian rather than writing the letter. Will that help knock off inquiries? I can always write later, right?

    Okay, more specific questionsâ?¦

On the name issue, now only my First Middle Previous-Married name is listed. The letter from Equifax says â??Please submit a copy of your social security card, driverâ??s license and/or an official document to update your name.â? Iâ??m thinking I should just send a copy of my driverâ??s license and say something like â??Please see enclosed license for proof of my correct name and spellingâ?. And hope that the former name drops offâ?¦

On one account, here is the reply: â??Equifax verified that this item belongs to you. Additional information has been provided from the original source regarding this item. See enclosed credit file. Please contact the data furnisher at XXX-XXX-XXXX. This account was previously incorrectly showing ch 13 instead of ch 7. Now itâ??s showing â??Charged off Accountâ? with lots of lates. No bk note at all. I assume I should go to the OC now on this oneâ?¦.comments?

Another negative, a charged off utility bill (last bill after we moved and not included in bk) says â??Equifax has verified that this item has been reported correctly.â? But there are no updates and no contact number like the first one. Do you think they really verified? Should I go back to the CRA and ask for verification procedure info on this one? (this is technically reporting correctly, but they sent to a ca awfully fast and it irks me.)

Finally, on the mortgageâ?¦I wrote checks, received correspondence, etc. from â??Homeside Lendingâ?. On the original credit report, Washington Mutual Bank FA was reporting â??Repossessionâ? and FORECLOSURE and various lates. The letter from Equifax states that they have researched the account and the results are:
Bancplus Mortgage Corp Account Number XXX*
    Address
    Phone

EQUIFAX VERIFIED THAT THIS ITEM BELONGS TO YOU. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION HAS BEEN PROVIDED FROM THE ORIGINAL SOURCE REGARDING THIS ITEM. SEE ENCLOSED CREDIT FILE.â?

On the new report, here is the entry:

Washington Mutual XXX* Date Opened: 07/99 DOLA: 10/01 Balance $0, Status I5, Date Reported: 07/03
Payment History: 1 time 30 days late; 1 time 60 days late; 6 times 90+ days late
    Previous Status: 09/02 â?? I5; 8/02 â?? I5; 07/02 I5
    REAL ESTATE MORTGAGE
    Address, etcâ?¦.

No reference to Foreclosure OR bankruptcy! But, how bad is this? Would it be better for it to say â??Included in Bkâ?? Is I5 worse than BK? With all the different mortgage names, should continue to dispute or leave well enough alone?

I might as well admit my â??stupid mistakeâ? tooâ?¦I had several Washington Mutual TLs and I inadvertently disputed an old joint mortgage with my x-husband that had no negative info. It was deleted. Duh, again.

Finally, Iâ??m thinking about going ahead and signing up at privacyguard.com so I can monitor the changes more quicklyâ?¦I know this has been discussed already, but how many of you think this is a good way to keep an eye on things? Can you see the scores change through privacy guard? Individual scores or just some sort of average? Also thinking this will help with bumpage....

Thanks in advance for all of your expert advice!!!!
