I have not yet begun disputing my credit inaccuracies as I am very new to this and still in the learning stages, trying to plan my strategy because my reports are a nightmare. I even see that my birthday is listed incorrectly on two of the Reports. Should I start with disputing these and the random addresses that are incorrect, or is that something I can use later to my advantage? Thanks for any advice!
I wouldn't worry much about the birthdate, unless it makes you a minor, and even then I'm not sure it matters. You can and should call the CRAs and dispute all old (incorrect addresses. That's one less thing a creditor/collector can use to match you when verifying.
I agree..those are the last things to dispute. I got bored waiting for EQ and started disputing addresses, incorrect spellings of my name, etc., but that's about it until everything else has been dealt with. L
Thanks! I am just so amazed at how much info is wrong and yet dissimilarly so on all 3 reports. I guess I'm a bit overwhelmed - wish I could blink like I Dream of Jeannie and have it all be fixed!
It's interesting tht you all are saying to dispute personal information last. I would dispute it FIRST. Why? Because if one of the creditors you want validated are using say a wrong address or name, and the creditor sends back validation with the wrong name or address, you'll be stuck. On the other hand, if you get rid of the incorrect personal information and a creditor validates with a wrong name or address - they haven't validated anything on you (per se). Everywhere else I've read says to dispute personal information first.
