Here is a copy of a complaint I sent to the FTC this morning. Let me know what you think. Explain Your Problem: I am filing this complaint because I feel that Kay Jewelers has been reporting erroneous information to the credit bureuas. My credit reports contain duplicate listings of this account, with overlapping and conflicting dates, balances, etc.. The account is also listed on one of the reports using two different company names, Kay Jewelers and Belden Jewelers. It has come to my attention that these two companies are actually one in the same. All of these issues have caused possible lenders from issuing me credit. I have filed disputes with the credit bureaus to have these accounts verified and updated over 30 days ago. Both items were verified and both remain. I find it rather impossible for Kay Jewelers to verify both accounts listed as there is only one true account. I do not believe that Kay Jewelers ever attempted to verify that the information that they have reported to the credit bureaus to be true and accurate. I have contacted Kay several times over the last several months, but I am told that the information they have provided is true. It appears to me that Kay Jewelers does not recognize the importance of the laws created and contained within the FCRA and the FDCPA nor do they recognize the damage to my creditworthiness that their false reports have caused.
