I am on SWBELL DSL and it's the same there too.
The addtron units won't even let them see it. If we are having problems and suspect that the DSL is out or giving trouble we have to hook a laptop straight into the DSL modem and take the router offline so SWBELL can even tell we are there. Otherwise they can't ping us and get any response. We don't exist as far as anybody can tell.

Only way in is having the actual DNS numbers and then if you are a hacker we are notified instantly because Neoworks will alert us to any hacks and they have to go through the server and then get past the password protection on each machine. The passwords are generated each week on Sunday nite and the new weekly password is printed out and the machines changed each Monday morning. We are pretty sure that we can be penetrated at least but nobody is likely to get anywhere and if they did get past all the security neoworks would trace them down to their location and generate a report giving us all the info as to who they are, what they did or did not do and we can file complaints on them because we have all the evidence we would need to do that.

We got bothered a bit when we first installed the system, but not anymore. So it must have been that they were having a field day before we installed the system. We had to install the best security possible because we are dealing with other peoples private information and we could not take any chances whatsoever that any of it might get out and into the hands of some tom fool hacker or kid. So we put the extra tight security in place before we ever started dealing with the public and their private information. Just one mistake and somebody's info got into the wrong hands and we would be in more hot water than we could possibly dream of handling.

You just can't take chances when dealing with the public the way we do.

    NORTON Works well.....

I am still experimenting with the Norton Internet Security 2002 softwatre - but it does protect my DELL and my DSL access just great!
    It has 4 programs included:

    1 - Privacy Firewall
    2 - Internet Security - protects /analyzes risks -
    (none) now
    3 - Virus Scan
4 - AD Blocker - that is nothing short of a blessing....
without the ads, its like surfing the net before it was "commercial"! hehehehe....

I have had some problems intially with AD Blocker
mistaking AOL Content for ADS! IF I go into AOL
content, ie AOL Games / Casino ...I shut off the
Norton to allow those sites access.

BUT, if links stay open, one click on Norton -
ENABLE, click shut the nuisance windows, and you are invisible again.

That's what Norton does - makes your PC INVISIBLE!

It was still the best insurance I have ever purchased
for a one time charge of $69.95 - with free live update - whenever I click.

Got my doghouse protecting my tail now - arff - dogman

    NORTON SNAGGED the TROJAN HORSE

Yup - came home - remember - my DSL is on and my PC is always on - I saw a flashing red exclamation point next to my NORTON icom in the taskbar.

I clicked - It said I had been attacked by the Trojan
Horse Virus - but the software kept me invisible - AND- GET THIS - left a message that it somehow disabled the attacker for 30 minutes. Gotta think about networking---I should have had A FIREWALL
    for the last few YEARS!

But now I am protected! Kewllll!
