My credit adventures today

Let me start with yesterday - I got an amusing little offer (2 actually) from Cap One for a Platinum card with a minimum line of $500. Wouldn't that be cute? A toy platinum card!!!

    Associates:
Then today I finally got around to calling Associates to try for better terms. I've had the card for one year, started out at $750, got one auto increase to $1,250, rate is 20.99%. They have never been willing to budge on the rate, and last time I called, wouldn't give me an increase either. November was my anniversary date, so I waited to see what they did. Well, they did exactly nothing. All I ever do with this card is charge items and then pay it off each month.

Today when I called I just asked if there was a way to get better terms. The rep said "you mean an increase?" I said "no, I mean a rate decrease." She said there was no decrease available for me right now, but I could get a credit line increase. I told her no, thanks, I don't use the card anyway, let's just close it. She said okay, and that was that. One down, two to go.

    Providian:
I called Providian about my MC - no deals for me! I didn't close it because I have a balance on that 0% for 6 months deal, but I am going to Xfer that and close the account anyway.

    AmEx:
I just got my cherished Blue card, but it was only a $2,000 limit. I was wanting more so I could transfer and close another account. The CSR transferred the call to the credit folks and they put the request in for me. However, I was confused by what the credit dept said - they said they match your highest existing line. I said "not on mine you didn't" - he looked and said, "oh, no I guess we didn't."

    Question re AmEx:
Does anyone know what they do in this situation? Just got the card last week, haven't used it yet. Will I get another inquiry, or any further underwriting? I did explain my reason, and said that I have plenty of credit for my income, but that there are some companies I no longer wish to deal with. That I want to xfer balances and close those accounts. I did a search and read some stuff, wanted more info on the underwriting if possible.

Good for you for closing Associates...20.99%! Have these people heard that the interest rate has dropped? Amex should give you the credit limit you want. The reps at Centurion Bank are the easiest people I have ever dealt with; too bad they don't handle Amex's LOC department :(
I started with a $2000 limit and am currently at $10000. Just harass them every six months :)

    Have a good weekend.

Breeze, if you will tell them what you want they will give it to you say you have citi with cl of 6500 and you tell them that, then they are likely to increase your limit to 6500 to match your highest limit, ask for a reconsideration on your cl not a cl increase.

amex denied me due too many increases, said to call back after 6 months.

Has to be within the first 30 days of getting the card for cl reconsideration, and btw breeze it should be done without a new credit report being pulled.

    Thank you AmEX

I called, they gave me what I asked for. I haven't been able to access the board much, so didn't see all the replies. Thanks for the support.

Gonna call and xfer a couple of balances and close those other ratty-a$$ed cards with low limits and high rates.

To add to the fun I'm having lately, I called the CapOne automated phone line, and pressed 3 (or whatever) for "credit line increase" and they gave me $1,000 right then. That kept them alive, LOL, I was ready to close it, had already zeroed that one out.

    Re: Thank you AmEX

Congrats, breeze. Amex is usually pretty easy to work with.
