Hello All: Just wanted to share some of my info for the new people that have turned up on this board. I started trying to shape-up my credit in June 2000. At that time I had 2 cards (Citibank Visa and Bloomingdale's). I obtained a Corporate AMEX card (by way of a miracle) and also obtained a Providian Visa Gold card. Then I decided to order my reports to see exactly what was going on. It has been 15 months since I started my credit shape-up plan that officially began in July 2000. From then until now I have/had the following accounts: Citibank Visa Bloomingdale's AMEX corporate (will be closed in Feb) Providian Visa Gold AMEX secured Optima (now closed) Washington Mutual Secured Visa (now closed) AMEX Gold Charge (AU now closed) Macy's (re-opened) Chevron (credit builders) Providian MC Capital One Visa (now closed) Target Citibank Silver AAdvantage MC (now closed and combined w/ Gold) Citibank Gold AAdvantage MC Victoria's Secret AMEX Gold Delta SkyMiles MBNA Platinum (in route) Since credit goals seem to be never ending and always changing, here are my current goals in order of importance: 1. Phase out both Providian cards and close at the 1 and 2 year marks (March and June). 2. Turn my AMEX Delta SkyMiles card into something else like Blue, Platinum cashback or Optima, etc. 3. Obtain a Visa from my CU (only for the overdraft protection). 4. Obtain a Gold AMEX charge card at some point in the near future. 5. Obtain a card from Chase at some point in the future. 6. Continue to grow my current credit limits w/o an inquiry on any reports. Getting a card from Chase will encourage me to clean up my TU report. That report has not been touched since Junum did their thing in March. I recently started on TU by just updating and deleting personal info on-line. I received a copy of my current report in the mail the other day. I did a dispute over the phone for a few items (Target paid chargeoff, Ford paid chargeoff, and a paid $85 collection) and then 2 days later went on-line and disputed the remaining 3 items (paid student loan collections). So, we'll see. So the bottom line for those of you just starting out: Don't give up! It can be done. Yes I did hire Junum for a hot sec (3 rounds) and they helped a GREAT DEAL but the rest has been all me. Yes I've bobbed and weaved, yes I've told some *white* lies, yes I've done some fast talking....but it worked! I based all of my techniques from the information I got from this board. It is because of this board that my credit is where it is today!
MP i been following your posts ever since you been posting here.... CONGRATULATIONS!!!... now i remember you wanted a FIDELITY GOLD CHARGE, at one time?? What was your reason for not getting that ( changed mind or denial, etc) ?.... I too have just recently got MBNA plat. plus (fidelity card) 1.7apr go to 11.99% $5,500 cl..applied for the Quantum as you did, but was denied, not enough credit history.... Thanks a lot for contributing to this board...YOU and everyone else that use Creditnet are great.... Thank you MP$40 Tony Verrengino Beautiful San Diego, CA
I sent in the request for the card through Fidelity and it was denied! I called new accounts to find out why and was told that the requirements for a Fidelity Gold Charge were the SAME as a regular Gold Charge. So, I decided to just try and get a regular one that would help my credit as opposed to a toy one that basically was a glorified debit card w/ benefits. Gee...I didn't even ask if my new MBNA Platinum card was going to carry the Fidelity name. Guess I'll find out soon enough.
