I'm a noob here, so sorry of any of this is silly. I just puled my 3 in 1 credit report. Turns out that my father's accounts (my father and I are not close) are on my EX report. Now, I know that doesent sound too, too bad...but wait till I tell you that he's in Chapter 7. So all his discharged depts are on MY report. In addition, the report reflects the child support he is required to pay - and I don't have kids, and have been single thus far. So, after I regained consciousness, I decided to get this mess fixed. I have begun calling all the Creditors individually (there are about 30 that are not mine) and verifying that the debt is not mine, as well as askign about their proceedures for fixing this. I have also complied a mass dispute for EX. Does anyone have any suggestions or insights about how to fix this massive blunder? Frankly, I dont even understand how this could have happened. In my mind, its either a terribly inconvenient clerical mistake, or my dad is out to screw me (I dont think this is it). Thanks, -a
Welcome! I'm not sure I have the answers as I'm pretty new also but I wanted to bump your thread back up to the top for you. Lots of great advice here!
My dad and I have the same name except he is Jr. and I'm the III. Two of his credit cards shows up on my report but both are old, positive and closed thus giving me lots of help with history points and limits. So I let that dog lay. Do you guys have the same name or close to it? Have you applied for credit cards and the card came in the mail and he took and used them? Maybe he did indeed use your SSN when applying for credit. I guess I would start with "not mine" to all CRA and go from there. Let them verify that they are yours. Start there.
I have a similar situation, although my Dad's credit is the bomb, and mine was bombed at the time. My debts were on his report and his on mine. Our names are similar but not the same. I would simply dispute with the CRA, and include additional note: This is my Dad's account, please use SSN to verify.
