I started working on my credit about a month ago and got my first good news today. There was a collection account on all 3 CRA's for $765 that I didn't know what it was for. I called the CA and it turned out it was an old cable TV company that claimed I had never returned their cable boxes. The woman I talked to said that $742 was for the boxes and $23 was unpaid cable service. She said they would investigate the $742 but only if I paid her the $23 right then over the phone. After arguing with her for a few minutes I told her I would pay nothing without proof I owed the money and hung up on her. Well, today I looked at my TU report and the account was updated, it now says I owe $17! Of course I still have no intention of paying it! It will drop off in 14 months anyhow.
