I have been pondering this idea for some time and would greatly appreciate any input that members are willing to offer. As everyone here knows, the FCRA is written in such a manner that it is heavily weighted in favor of the CRA's in matters such as accurate reporting, verifications, reinsertions etc. and has little to no "teeth" when it comes to holding the CRA's responsible for their actions or lack thereof. I was considering starting a website, with explanations to the flaws in the FCRA, links to Congressional Representatives and/or sample letters with a list of their mailing addresses. The hope would be to get enough of a grass roots type movement going that it would get the attention of someone in the Senate or House of Representatives to get them to seriously look at this issue. The website could hopefully be linked to by some of the credit advice/forum type websites to make its presence known. I do not have any desire to make a profit of any type and hope to be able to pay for the site on my own. I did a search and found several websites that offer domain name registration and hosting for a reasonable fee. I know very little about HTML and my writing skills are a little above average but I do get tangled with words from time to time. I would appreciate any feedback and/or comments on this idea and if there is enough positive interest I will likely go forward with this soon. Thank you for your time. My email is also activated so feel free to email me with any comments or suggestions on this subject.
Sounds like a terrific idea to me also... (not to copy you Doc)... Look at the success of creditnet.com. We do not have to pay fees because it is an advertiser supported website. I would think many of these same companies would be interested in the audience you're able to draw also.......
I think this is an excellent idea. If the site is done correctly, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to get enough advertising revenue to at least break even (no pop up ads please!!!!!) so there is no out of pocket expense on you're part.
I will offer some help on your project. For domain name and hosting I would recommend Anderson's at netnameone.com There is always someone in the office 24-7-365 and they are among the cheapest out there for both hosting fees and domain names registration. I do understand html coding and can help you that way. I can put your site in my search engine submission program and help get you some search engine rankings and traffic in that way. It does take time, but it is quite effective. I am currently submitting for over 1000 different companies and individuals and it never stops. Works on a rotating basis every 5 days. In otherwords, your site would get submitted every 5 days approximately and would continue forever. I can link you into some of my sites and help you get traffic that way too. Reciprical links are hard to beat for increased traffic and every quality rediprocal link you can get helps build search engine rankings and traffic. I can also trade links in special hidden robots files that all search engines look for when spidering sites. These are nothing more than large files with links to a large number of other sites who will be trading with you. The public will never see these files but the search spiders see them instantly and gobble them up and add all the links into their data bases and then go spider all of the links in that file. Your link would go into a large number of other such site files over time and help build even more traffic. I can also donate you a very excellent and popular web authoring progam which has a wysiwyg editor with built in FTP capability. That wil also help solve part of the problems you would have with html coding. And I can handle most of your graphics production for you. I'm not the best at it by any means but I get most of the easier stuff done that I want done. Let me know if you would like my help in these ways.
Thanks for all the advice. Any advertising on the site would be only for the express purpose of supporting the cost of the site. No popup ads, as I find nothing more annoying - they are the telemarketing of the internet. Bill, I will be emailing you about your offers/suggestions. Anyone who has good writing skills, and/or html coding experience and would be willing to assist would be greatly appreciated. I intend to put this into motion the weekend of the 9th. Any ideas for a website name? I was thinking something along the line of: www.fightthefcra.com , org, net, etc. I would love suggestions!
my take- that's a negative name I would not recommend... sounds like it's pro-cra.... accuratecreditreporting.com? I don't know...
FCRAFIGHT.com would be much better. Here is why. You have to think in terms of search engine rankings. The search engines will look at that name and they will make two words out of it. FCRA and FIGHT and then they will switch the two around and then combine them as well in both formats. Then they put all of that in their databases. And then somebody enters FIGHT in a search engine and it come up with all the variations of both words it can come up with. Results: Somebody is looking for old Mariyln Monroe movies and all they could remember was that the movie they were looking for had the word FIGHT in it's title. Let us assume that she starred in a move with the following actors, Joe Lewis, Marilyn Monroe and Gene Autry. The title of the movie was FIGHT, F*** OR DRAW YOUR GUNS. You got it! FIGHTFCRA is most likely going to show up in their search results pretty well at the top if you have done a good job of getting your site in the search engines. If not, it isn't going to show up in the first place. Name it FCRAFIGHT and you will still show up in the search example above, but way down in the listings, but if the FCRA part is first then anybody searching for FCRA will get your listing pretty well up to the top. I noticed that you mentioned still wanting others to help with the coding. Even if you are using a wysiwyg editor, you still have to know html coding to use it. The editor just makes things a bit easier if you have a good one but you must still be well versed in html coding. And that's not all. You also have to be at least minimally versed in both CGI and Perl or C++ I have a pretty good set of programs which will help in getting your website properly prepared and up and running. It is all at your disposal.
