That was my first thought as well George, why put the words "on-line" in there unless you were specifying a certain method..."do you provide WRITTEN reports to businesses where you apply for credit?"

I just received my Innovis file. It had my Chase Mortgage acct (balance was more than we owe) and an OLD Chase Mastercard account which was paid off and closed in '98 but on Innovis lists a current balance. The only other account they had on there was Kohl's. I have 18 to 20 accounts and they only had info on these 3.

    Here I go...
    disputing yet another CRA.

Called them this AM. They gave me their usual line of BS. I told them I knew my FCRA rights and that they were required by law to send me ANY info they have on me, regardless of whether they are "On-Line" or their database isn't complete yet. The rep got totally bitchy at me, asked for my address and SSN, said she would "scribble it down" and I would get something in 7-10 days in the mail. She didn't even say goodbye or anything just the fat "click" and hung up on me. Scribbling sounds kind of primative to me...computers have not reached Innovis yet I guess. Maybe their database is contained in a handwritten notebook :) Will let you know if/when I receive something. Everyone should call them and request theirs, though!

I got the same person last friday, She said a supervisor would call back and this person never did.
I called her later and she said she put it on the supervisors desk however, the supervisor was gone for the day. She would call back today.

    Yea, right.

Just called Innovis to request my report. Looks like they've been getting a lot of calls. They now have a message saying that all credit report requests be made in writing to the following address:

    Innovis Consumer Assistance
    P.O. Box 1358
    Columbus, OH 43216-1358

Send name, current address, SSN, and copy of driver's license or utility bill showing current address.

    Fee schedules by state:
    California $8
    Connecticutt $5
    Maine $2
    Minnesota $3
    Montana $8.50
    Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, and
    Vermont - Free
    All Others $9

Yeah, that's what it says at their website. Mailed my order on 3/25/03 and received it about 4/3/03.

They only had 6 TLs out of a 22 year history: 2 positive and 4 totally BOGUS negatives.

I'll dispute with them on a fresh report after I'm done with the big 3.

When my Wells Fargo loan was sold and I went through all of the problems to get it corrected on my CR's, Wells Fargo sent me a letter stating the corrections and that they had notified all "four" bureaus. Innovis was on the list so if you have accounts with Wells fargo you probably have info at Innovis too.

So now we have 4 of the monsters to deal with instead of three? And this new one has extremely lousy customer support from what I gather? And obviously no computers?

    Wonderful.

Add the crappy web site to that.

You guys think they are going to last long?

I think a warning is in order. Don't expect Innovis to give you good customer service or customer support. They may provide that for their customers, but WE ARE NOT THEIR CUSTOMERS.

The most accurate word to describe our relationship to Innovis would be "subjects."

    Re: Innovis Update

Here is an updated article with general information about Innovis:

    Secret Credit Bureau Revealed

A fourth major credit bureau, Innovis/CBC, sometimes called the "secret credit bureau," has emerged. No longer is it enough for consumers to monitor their credit files with the "big three" credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Now consumers have to deal with Innovis/CBC, and dealing with them is not easy. Innovis/CBC is hard to find and consumers report Innovis/CBC is reluctant to provide information from its files.

Innovis/CBC is covered by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act). These laws require Innovis/CBC to provide residents of Western and Midwestern States a free annual copy of their credit report and to provide consumers nationwide a free copy if they have been denied credit on the basis of the contents of the report, are unemployed and plan to seek a job, are on welfare, or believe the file has inaccurate information as a result of fraud.

Comparing Innovis/CBC's consumer web site to the requirements of these laws reinforces the "secret credit bureau" label. The web site neither mentions the right of consumers in Western and Midwestern States to a free credit report (the right will be phased in nationwide by the end of 2005), nor does it mention the other reasons for getting a free report under federal law. And while the "big three" credit bureaus let consumers request their free reports by phone, Internet or mail, Innovis/CBC makes consumers compose their own letter and include a photocopy of their license or utility bill. Innovis/CBC does provide a toll free number, 1-800-540-2505, but the recorded message simply repeats the information found on the web site and tells consumers to request the credit report in writing.

In the past, Innovis/CBC reportedly declined to provide credit reports to consumers because it claimed it did not sell credit files or that it was updating its system. Those excuses are no longer valid since its parent company's web site boasts that Innovis/CBC has been in business for 50 years and that it provides "outstanding" service in the areas of credit reporting and credit scoring. Of course, there is no link from the Innovis web site to the CBC companies web site. Consumers need to search out this information themselves.

Totally absent from the Innovis/CBC site is the FACT Act requirement of making credit scores available to consumers for a reasonable fee. Also absent is a mode for consumers to opt-out of credit card solicitations and to opt-out of information sharing by Innovis/CBC and its affiliates. Innovis/CBC has joined with the "big three" credit bureaus in maintaining a single site for opting out of preapproved credit offers. Consumers can access this site by calling 888-567-8688 and requesting a mail-in form or by visiting www.optoutpreescreen.com. But Innovis/CBC does not mention this anywhere on its web site. Consumers are expected to discover this secret themselves.

Credit bureaus choose to engage in the business of gathering and selling information about American consumers. Because inaccurate reports harm consumers, the government gives them the right to inspect these files and correct errors. Now, in addition to obtaining information from the "big three" credit bureaus (1â??877â??322â??8228 or www.annualcreditreport.com), consumers should check the information maintained by the "secret credit bureau," Innovis/CBC. To make things easier, a privately prepared sample letter requesting a free credit report from Innovis/CBC and opting out of prescreened credit offers can be found at www.rationalsimplicity.com/secret.html.

Re: My Innovis Report Is In Hand !

Ok, i've been reading this string. I've not tried to call them; however, my story is different and sort of strange. I pulled my Experian credit report a few days back. I noticed all kinds of soft hits and starting calling these companies to find out why. One lady at Next Student (they where all scum bag student loan consolidation companies, Xanthus, etc) explained it most likely came from Innovis. So I asked who they where and she said they are sort of a secret company that is compiling a database to sell your information to credit, insurance, etc companies. She gave me a number that supposedly removes you from their database 1-888-567-8688. I called and its automated but appears to be extremely accurate. What is more troubling is she said they have everyone's information in that database. I've been getting (no lie) 10-15 pieces of mail from Capital One each wee, 2-5 student loan consolidation scams, etc. The only thing i can think of that changed was my mortgage switched to Chase Home Finance. Thats all i have.

I did not see some of the comments above mine, but it would appear there is a common thread of Chase Bank/Finance/anything. Are they the only one's that report through this company? I'm wondering if they have stock in Innovis. What a bunch of shit.

    Hi-

You can choose to believe what I'm saying or not, that's up to you. Innovis does NOT sell their credit reports to lenders by mail, fax, phone, or the internet. Now, a lot of people mentioned Innovis along with CBC-Innovis. Two completely different things that will eventually be tied together. First, CBC-Innovis and Innovis are owned by CBC Companies who also has a collections department, CBCS. For now, CBC-Innovis pulls tri merge (Equifax, Experian, and Transunion combined into one) reports for mortgage purposes. Mortgage companies like Wells Fargo use CBC-Innovis's report to grant or deny you a mortgage loan or to see what your rates will be. If something is wrong on your report, they help to fix that so you can get your mortgage or the better APR.
Now, CBC Companies have in fact been around for more than 50 years, but Innovis (not CBC-Innovis), started collecting consumer information in 1999. There are several different companies other than Chase that report to Innovis like Countrywide, Washington Mutual, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Sallie Mae, GE Consumer Finance (owns several store credit accounts like JCPenney, Wal-Mart, and Dillards) Federated stores (Macys, Bloomingdales, and Pier One), Verizon, GMAC, etc. All of your lenders can provide you with the names of the credit reporting agencies they report to. Many other lenders are reporting but will not show their accounts on the reports until Innovis starts selling the reports.
Innovis falls under a different section of the FCRA because they do not sell the reports. This allows them a reasonable fee for reports since only the consumer can see it. They do however offer free reports to those consumers who have been fraud victims, have been denied credit, are unemployed and seeking employment, and those who are on welfare.
Innovis is in the process of touching up their systems to report information more accurately than the other three bureaus. You won't find someone else's information on your report unless it came directly from the lender. The other bureaus seem to be behind in this aspect as my reports contained multiple items that did not belong to me with completely different social security numbers.
To avoid possible fraud, Innovis does require consumer to request their report in writing. I don't know if consumers realize just how easy it is for someone to steal his/her identity. Yes, they could give you the report by you just giving them your name address and SSN, but Innovis won't have any part of fraud. It is too easy for someone else to request your report over the phone and send it to his/her address instead of your own. They are protecting consumers not trying to make things harder for them.
Innovis's website is in the making. They are getting closer and closer to becoming the fourth major agency. They do not have credit scores yet. The reasoning behind that is obvious. They don't have a full report, as you can see. They don't have public records either. It would not be an accurate score if they used the information they have. Innovis is carefully monitored by the FTC to see that they abide by all FCRA guidelines and if they weren't following them exactly, then Innovis would no longer exist.

I hope this helps you to better understand the company. They are not the bad guys, but it's easy to be angry with someone when you're information is being obtained inaccurately. Please be assured, credit reporting agencies are not allowed in any way to alter your credit history; any and all records are supplied and altered only by the lender who reported it.

Oh, Innovis relocated it's headquarters to Columbus, Ohio where CBC-Companies is located.

How to get an Innovis report without problem:

Send your name, current address, previous address if you have not been at your current address for more than 2 years, your SSN or the last 4 digits, whatever you deem necessary, and a copy of a utility bill with your name and current address on it or a copy of your driver's license if your current address is on there. If you send your SSN or driver's license your information is then verifiable and any information that contradicts it will not be reported.
If you have any questions call 1-800-540-2505
    Fax: 800 271 7721
    Mailing address:
    PO Box 1358

A major weakness of the current credit reporting and scoring system is that all reporters of information are taken as equally accurate, and in effect assumed to be completely accurate. Some debt collectors have taken advantage of this situation in using deliberately erroneous reporting to collect, and even though FTC and state AGs have sometimes eventually taken action, there is no indication that any of the 3 CRAs have raised a finger against their dishonest clients to enforce quality standards on the data they collect, even though there are reports that they have been fully aware of the manner in which their systems have been misused, and their dispute statistics would allow them to know when specific clients are misusing their reporting systems.

Some of this gaming of the system has been in the form of actual erroneous reporting and re-aging, and some has been in the selective failure to report certain fields that are known to skew FICO scores by forcing it to make assumptions using other fields. (As examples of companies that have been fined or shut down for such activity, we can start with CAMCO and NCO.)

Mathematically, a best estimate of a credit score used to predict future payment reliability would consider the reliability of the source of the information, yet FICO ignores this, and the CRAs do little themselves to maintain their own data accuracy.

Before we accept at face value that Innovis is intending to create a more reliable and accurate system, how do they intend to deal with the cumulative poisoning of the credit databases by collectors of cheaply bought OOS debt that the big three have failed to adequately address?
