experian is reporting a biil in my name OliviaJane Robert as mine,they say it is public record. My sister Jane Roberts has the bill,it came to her as Jane Roberts,but it is on my Experian as mines & in my name Olivia Jane Roberts??What can I do?????????
Take it to a lawyer (like one affiliated with NACA), sue and make some money, assuming that the tradeline that is the result of the "file mixing" is the only baddie making your life miserable.
Public records usually are obtained by the CRAs by services they pay to collect information from court cases. If you sister was sued and lost, there would be a public record of that, and the CRA should have put it on her report not yours. Property lien information resulting from a judgement would also be obtained from public records. Many public records don't have SSN information, which would more accurately identify the individuals referred to, and may only have the names and addresses of the parties involved. If your names are similar, and you have had common addresses in the past, the CRA may think you are one person using several variants of name. Since variations of names for one individual is common when obtaining information from multiple reporting sources, the CRAs consider minor variations in name or address information where other information matches as normal or possibly transcription errors, and merges the reported information together as if it were regarding one person. Items under any of those variants could come up on your report as a result.

How much of your name is similar to your sister's? Do you have any joint or authorized user accounts in common with your sister, that might be further mingling your identities? Are your addresses different, and is your address currently different from the address of whatever public record is erroneously on your reports?
IT is The Same Address,Her name is Jane Roberts,I am Olivia Jane Robert.We where both name after our Auntie Jane..Some tips I can say to Experian ,can the fcc help.
That was not a wise naming move by your parents, however worthy your aunt was of the honor. In effect, based on how the CRAs merge similar appearing identities, you are both set up to have problems with this for the rest of your life. Have either of you married and changed your last names? Do you have any other accounts of hers that are leaking onto your reports, or have your different SSNs been sufficient to prevent this from happening?

Did they confirm their removal in writing as a result of their investigation? Insist that they do so, for your records.
Keep it in your permanent files, in case the creditor reinserts and the CRA fails to block. Since your name is so close to your sister's, you will have to keep a close eye on your credit reports to prevent recurring problems.
