I just went outside in all this snow to my mailbox (phila, pa). Guess what? Capital one just gave me my gold offer with a $500 increase. CAn you believe that? Maybe when I combined my accounts it triggered this. I dont know. But that gives me $2900 if I accept.

Also, I got a letter from Providian. I was offered another card- Mastercard for $1,000. Do you guys think I should accept this one also.

I am so happy about this. I will call capital one and ask for some more increase besides the $500.

I guess when you stick these guys out, it will happen. I was almost ready to give up on capital one. BTW, I opened my first account with them in 11/99.

    Roni,
Providian offer is ok...cap one will give you the gold with $500. However, don't plan on any other increase
in the near future from Cap one.

    Roni,

I have two cap one gold accounts...one visa and one M/C...they lowered my apr to 13% from 16%....first account opened 4/98......getting line increases out of them is nearly impossible. Opened Providian account in 6/99 original limit 2,000 a year and a half later $7500.....providian apr lowered to 12.9%. The best card i carry though is the Citibank Dividend platinum ...10,000 limit and good customer service. I'm kind of getting sick of Cap One..tempted to close both accounts....anyway, Take Care.

    Sean. I have cap1 already.

IF I read the offer correctly, they are upgrading my account to gold with an $500 increase. I was hoping for more than the $500 increase. I will ask for apr reduction instead. I recently combined my two capital one accounts to 1 $2,400 account.

I have the Citibank Platinum select and I upgraded my gold to the Citibank Dividend Platinum 2 weeks ago. I have $9k with each.

I agree that Citibank is my best card overall. I have had Providian for 10 months now. I am stuck at $2,600. I emailed them asking for an increase just today.

I guess you dont really appreciate the capital one gold.

    Roni,

Nice chatting with you last evening.

Did Cap 1 ask you to pay for the $500 limit increase? Also, what were the terms on the Providian $1K mc?

    Hey JIM...

$39 fee for upgrade to gold. There are alot of benefits of the gold card too. I was surprised.

The providian mc terms are pitiful. $59 annual fee and 23.9% apr. I am gonna take them both though.

I might need to credit lines in the future when I try to go out on my own in practice. Times may be tough.

    Re: Hey JIM...

I agree Roni. I would take both offers.

The benefits on the Cap 1 gold card are great! BTW I am at $3K and 17.9% fixed on mine. I am going to try for an increase in limit this month.

How long have you had the providian account? Is the new mc offer for a Providian or ARIA card?

Sorry for all the questions but you got my interest here.

it is for a providian mastercard. I have had a providian visa classic since 5/00.

Jim: call Cap1 retention and get that interest rate to 15.9 or 13.9.

Roni: take the Mc and when the card arrives in the mail, that day, call to cancel. Tell them you didn't realize you can't access it online b/c you already have a visa.

GO for annual fee rebate and 16.9 interest rate. BOTH. I got both the day I got the MC in the mail. Then it is worth it to keep the mc :) Have fun!

One time Capital One mailed me a Silver Card upgrade and they offer some extra purchase protection and some other discounts . They asked for $99 upgrade fee and I think it is too much . I say no and I had a couple of other good credit cards like Citibank,NextCard, and Exxon MasterCard. I knew my credit is better than Silver and Platinium card is free and why do I pay Silver Card upgrade plus annual fee $39. It is ripp off
