I had a collection on my EXP file for an unpaid $207 medical bill from 1997. I disputed it & eventually was deleted on 3/7/03. I noticed today that it has suddenly reappeared (reinserted somewhere between 5/17-5/29). I called Experian & they pointed out that it has a different account number than the one before, therefore it is "not considered the same account as before", but they can "place the account in dispute". Of course, the account was for the same amount, $207. But the dates had changed. What was once supposed to age off my report in 4/04, is now scheduled to remain until 1/06!! The CA is trying some sleazy tactics to keep that account on my record. Should I wait & see what the Experian dispute reveals or take immediate action against the CA? Help!
Dispute it as a re-aged account with the CRA The day the CA verifies the TL to the CRA send an ITS letter witha short date (2 weeks) then sue.
