I call National City Leasing to ask them when I was 30 days late on a lease payment because Equifax is showing a 30 day late, but it's one of those glorious "unknown" dates. The National City rep. states they will have to charge me 35.00 to verify the late pay? WTF is up with that??? Anyone know how to get around that BS?

I believe you are correct but they are attempting to charge under the guise of "research costs". I see, pushing two buttons on the keyboard is worth 35.oo dollars. I'm sending out the disputes today. It's only posting on Equifax, so we'll see. Thanks.
There is something in the FCRA about this, I believe. If I recall correctly, you CANNOT be charged. Goto the FTC site and look thru the FCRA for the reference to this.
