Nations Bank, Ocean Bank on Equifax

Checked my Equifax report this weekend and noticed that my Bank of America account now shows up as Nations Bank? I know they acquired Nations in the past, but it is kind of bizarre that all of a sudden they are reporting under this name.

In addition, I had a Cross Country Bank card in the past. That trade line now shows up as Ocean Independent Bank. Wonder if they are being bought out. I never had a problem with them, but better management is definitely needed.

    Just thought I'd share. :)

I've had my BofA account for almost 3 years. The CCB account was closed I think about 4 years ago.

Bank of America bought NationsBank, not the other way around. It has been Bank of America for 4 or 5 years now.

As to why it suddenly shows up as NationsBank, I have no idea, But trust me, BofA does have the NationsBank records and will send them to you to prove their point.

"The second-largest, NationsBank's purchase of BankAmerica in 1998, created Bank of America..."

is a quote from the article in this link

I had to look it up b/c I knew about it from my father who works in banking. He had told me some time ago that it was a common misperception that BofA bought Nations when it's really the other way around. I only learned about Nationsbank's existence when they started buying banks in the DC area when I lived there a few years ago.

My Nationsbank cc became Bank of America and started reporting as such a few years ago. As to why an Equifax report is now showing a Bof A as Nationsbank, it's probably their data getting screwy once again. I can't get CW for some reason (don't ask, I barely know myself, file too long or some such) so I haven't seen my EQ report in awhile so I don't know if this change happened to me too.

    Never heard of Ocean Bank...
