NCO just purchased an old 8 y/o cedit account that has already dropped off my credit reports. I know they can't collect and can't legally put it back on my report. However, I am concerned that they might try and want to be prepared. Any suggestions or info on NCO? Thanks!

Make sure the date of last activity is 8 years. In most if not all states the debt is past the SOL. They can't sue, they can't report it...yeah there are some real brainiacs at these CAs

Just send them a ceast and desist letter, that will stop them cold.

Do you have an old report? If so keep it. Scan a copy and send it to NCO. Block ALL other listings on the report and inform them that you are aware of your rights and this debt is to old to collect on OR re-list on your report. If it is not immediatly removed sue 'em.

I don't think I would do that at this point, because they aren't currently reporting. I would send a validation. If it's within 30 days of their initial notice to you, then they must cease collection efforts until they validate, and this includes reporting to the cra's.

Should they report it, then you can send a copy of an old report with date of last activity showing along with a letter advising them that the sol has run and they are in violation of the FDCPA.

I don't think you'll have too much trouble with this.

Thanks to all of you for such a quick response! I appreciate it alot. Since I just received the notice from NCO today, I think I will send them a copy of my old report showing last date of activity, along with a cease & desist. What do you think?

Just send the C&D letter. Believe me they know exactly when this debt occurred.

I imagine that you could just write in the DOL if it is important for you to include it in the letter. My idea was probaly a bad one. Sorry. I am newer at this.
