Ok, got a collection letter from NCO today, is the usual junk, you have 30 days etc. to dispute this debt. Last year at this time I signed up for that CS deal where you got a $300 rebate for signing up for 3 years of CS. Well, a few months ago I let this thing lapse and they are making me pay out the rest of the contract. $450. There was a contract I signed at the register, I believe it was at Circuit City. What should I do? This was so damn ignorant of me, I certainly cannot afford for a new collection to show up on my account. Any advice? PLEASE!
What did you do to cause it to lapse? Are you stii with C.Serve or do you have a different server now? I signed the contract at C.City also.
I got a phone call from a collector re 1 more medical bill on Thursday. This after getting all my reports clean. It was only for $52.00. I asked him if I pay it now will it be reported to the cra's. He said no if paid within 30 dyas. I went to their office, got a statement in writing that it would not be reported and paid it. It wasn't worth messing up my reports again for such a small amount. Now I realize $450 is a lot more, but why not call them and ask if you make arrangements or pay it in full now, will they agree to not report it. If they do agree, get it in writing. I don't have any other suggestions. Good luck.
LKH, I had the same thing happen last week, only mine was for $265. My insurance should be paying at 100% but I don't want ONE more negative thing on my credit so I paid it with a letter it would NOT be reported. If the insurance pays, I'll work on getting my money back, but I refuse to ever go thru this BS again once I get clean and now that I'm working on getting clean.
You should pay them because they gave you money (rebate) and you are stealing if you don't fufill your obligations.
They have already been paid for the rebate I got, it is the rest of the contract they are getting me for. Thanks so much for your words of encouragement though.
Oh, by the way, have you ever had a chargeoff or account nor paid? Same thing, you didn't pay for services rendered or products you purchased, so that is also stealing.
I got 3 of those rebates, simply because I was greedy 2 years ago, I never paid them , and when they sent NCO, and some Shyster atty Salvatore Spickelly after me, I sent them a prove or leave me the hell alone letter, wouldnt you know it, they couldnt prove I ever opened those accounts. They apologized and never persued the matter. Stealing or not, that is what the finance companies do to us every day when they charge us 30% interest b/c of bad credit. Just send them a validation letter and threaten to sue, they will go away, and if they don't spend the 18.00 bucks it costs, and sue the pants off them!
Well quite frankly I think you did steal. It is one thing when people have legitmate reasons for validating debts, but you blatantly did this 3 times and are so darn proud of yourself
