NCPS-no deletion for payment-HUH??

I have an account I closed w/Fleet where we disagreed over charges to the tune of $90, back in Dec '97. Just found it's listed on NCPS report (chexsystem is clean, but that's five years) and I spoke w/someone who told me that even if I paid the outstanding amount w/Fleet, it would not get removed from the report.

I found this amazing. So people have zero incentive to settle their bank debts because it will still be reported in seven years?

In my case, it will fall off next January, so I really have no incentive. Amazing.

Anyone have any luck w/deletions w/NCPS?

National Check Protection Services - www.ncpsonline.com for a little bit of info. They're like chexsystems or telecheck, except I don't think they do collection at all.

    1* Thanks Dan.
2* How did NCPS get involved with your dealings with fleet?
3*. They're like chexsystems or telecheck; I thought these sort of outfits only reported for 5 years or until paid which ever occurred first.
4* why would an account with fleet be listed with them?
Are you saying NCPS is listing an unpaid fleet debt or are you saying the NCPS listing is being reported to one or more of the 3 big CRAs?

have you disputed and demanded they verify? TeleCheck completely folded when I demanded verification. Of course they were reporting a totally ficticious account to begin with. Since these charges were disputed, I'm not so sure they can verify this debt. I'm sure they'll think they can, but it might be worth a shot. Are you able to write checks and get a bank account even tho youre blacklisted by NCPS? (in other words, is it like telecheck and chexsystems?)

The report from NCPS became an issue for me when a local credit union turned me down for opening a savings account.

The argument I had w/Fleet, after they took over my account in a series of mergers, was over some bogus charges and I decided to close out my account, leaving me w/a $90 deficit. No check bouncing, just me and their policies.

NCPS seems to be doing the NCRA rules, reporting for seven years.

Atleast they didn't report to one of the big 3 CRA's... TCF Bank did so for me, and I can't get it off.

Well first of all NC IS a reporting agency. They probably are somehow misreporting too. I might begin by asking the obvious, why is a "Check Service" involved in this dispute.

NC, merely by mentioning your name, allows one to draw the conclusion that you have trouble with CHECKS. It's the same philosophical foundation as to why NO CA TL can be made positive. It's very existence has negative connotation.

    That's what the problem is.

Since NC is a "check reporting service" look into this from an FCRA perspective (inaccurate reporting) and go from there Dan.

    :)

Just FYI - From NCPS website:

The srvices NCPS provides may be classified into three categories:

    New Account Verification
A comprehensive financial check for financial institutions, retailers, and other organizations regarding new applicants.

    Employment Screening
A thorough background investigation on employment applicants.

    Due Diligence Investigations
Background investigations on the companies or individuals with whom you do business.

NCPS understands that each business has its own needs and we are prepared to customize our services and reports to meet your specific requirements.

Our database is constantly being updated to ensure the most accurate information is provided to our clients. The following is a list of information collected and maintained in the database (New Account Verification):

    Account closed check negotiations
    Attachments
    Bank robbery
    Bankruptcies
    Counterfeit check negotiations
    Embezzlement
    Financial arrest warrants
    Financial convictions records
    Forced closures
    Foreclosures
    Fraudulent activity
    Fraudulent identification
    Kiting
    Liens
    Loans to collections/Attorney
    Mail drop address
    OFAC Screening
    Questionable address
    Social Security verification
    Stolen check negotiations

    Also, Under the Employmemt Screening:

If your potential employees can't handle their own personal finances, how can they handle yours? Even though they can be difficult to read, it's important to check credit reports during the employment-screening process.

An NCPS Credit Report will present the information to you in a clear, concise and easy to understand format. A detailed history of all charge and installment accounts will result in a valuable profile of the applicant's financial responsibility.

Houston, do we have a problem here? A new CRA that we have to deal with??

Yes Caligirl, a [not so new] new CRA. That was my point.

But if they also are in the business of reporting to any of the big 3, they are also DF's.

And if they attempt to collect on any checks, they are CA's.

    :)
