I've been working on DH's credit reports. I just started pulling mine. Please someone tell me if there is anything I can try to get this removed. Here's the info: Collection account. $1 past due as of 4-2000 [YES! It say $1 ] Date Opened:11/1998 Type: Installment [this was a Medical bill,so I don't know why it says Installment] Reported Since: 03/1998 Terms: NA Date of Status: 03/1998 Monthly Payment: $0 Last Reported: 04/2000 Responsibility: Individual Credit Limit/Original Amount: $134 High Balance: NA Recent Balance: $1 as of 04/2000 Recent Payment: $0 Thanks Cathy
I'm wanting to dispute this at Experian. Just can't figure out which reason best fits this. I had the bill, don't remember it going to collection & sure did NOT know I owed a measly $ 1 !! This seems so frivilous of an amount. Cathy
What your after is the CA not verifying it when Experian checks with them. If you use "No knowledge of account" and the CA doesn't verify, the CRA has to delete it. You never had an installment account with a doctor, right? I can't believe they would report you for a dollar. Don't they have something better to do? How about an offer for a settlement of 45 cents (just kidding, don't do this)
Pat, Thanks for replying to another one of my questions. No , no installment acctount. This was with a Hospital. Being as I did have a bill w/ the hosp. would it still have a chance at coming back as they couldn't verify ? Is there something I should put on the additional information part of Request Investigation ? Cathy
Your welcome I wouldn't put anymore info than necessary to start the dispute. It won't help and could hurt. Anything can come back as verified. Even if the account really isn't yours! I'm convinced that sometimes the "CRA lackeys" just deletes or verifies an account without ever contacting the source. The key here is whatever you put, they are going to check with the CA for verification. So if the CA verifies, then they will leave it on. You can always come back later and dispute it another way. If you dispute that it was "Paid in Full", they could update it to a paid collection, still bad. If you had proof that you paid it or something along those lines, then you would go after the CA. Since ultimately you want this off your credit report give them the "No knowledge" reason and cross your fingers. Plenty of people, including myself, have had accounts deleted from a simple dispute. Hopefully the CA won't waste their time with a $1 collection. It's not like they are going to sue you for it. If it comes back verified, you can send a validation letter to the CA and dispute again after they receive it. A lot of people go this route first.
Thank you both for the advice. I just put in for investigation. Fingers crossed... Don't know if I should laugh or cry since this one is so pathetic ! Cathy
Chin up I started here almost a year ago and started repairing my credit months prior to that. I had some tradelines that I thought were never going to go away. But "where theres a will, theres a way". There is plenty left in the arsenol if this doesn't work.
