Hello There, I have a friend that receieved a amex green card pre-approval in the mail... it gives a web address to apply on line and accept the card through express approval the only problem is that he messed up with amex in the past I know that from the post that amex has very long memories my question is should he even apply for it or not... this is not a revolving card but a pay at the end of the month card... what are his chances... please let me know.... Thx, Kev
If he owes a balance, he will most likely be declined. However, a friend of mine applied for the blue card and she owed a balance to Amex from at least 10 years prior. She was declined and then called customer service. They gave her the info on the balance owed. At no time did they tell her to pay it. She offered. After paying the balance, she called back several days after the check cleared. The analyst approved her on the spot for the blue. Not sure if this works in every circumstance, but it's worth a try. I have heard Amex will give you a card 1 year after paying a balance owed to them (providing you have good credit of course). My friend did not have to wait a year. Good luck!!
