Hi! I am over my head in credit card debt. I had two major credit cards and then of course little ones like Richs , Macys ect. I have been having health problems and was getting behind on the so the two larger CC (total about 15,000 First Union and Manhattan Visa) I put through a consolidation comapny called Debt Rescue. This was stupide on my part because I had to pay them $1500 for the service. They were suppose to work with my creditors for me to settle within two years. They also promised that all calls would be stopped ect. The calls got worse and they didn't seem to stop anything!!! I have collectors calling day and night ( these credit cards seem to be sold to collection companies now) people saying they were attorneys ect. I still haven't settled these debts as I am not about to have surgery and don't have the money! THey have ruined my credit which use to be very good! I need to know what I can do to start correcting this problem because in the next year or so my husband and I wanted to buy a house!! (all debt is probally about 17000.00 including small credit cards) Any advice would be appreciated.....I have thought about talking to a lawyer and see what all I can do to correct some of this, but all of you seem to have great advice.... Can you document what Debt Rescue claims they could do for you? Can you document what they haven't done and what has happened since you signed on w/them? If you can document this info, you should take it to an attorney. Even if you can't document this info you should take it to an attorney. There is a website called NACA (can't remember the rest). This site has consumer protection attorneys. You can find one in your state and contact them. Good Luck. And hope your health gets better.
