O.k. I'm moving to a new place. It's twice the size of my apartment and has a 1 car garage w/ a washer and dryer. The dryer is a gas dryer. I tested it out the other night while I was dropping off a few items and it took 1 1/2 hours to dry clothes! Then I came back today and those clothes were STILL DAMP! I set the time for 80 minutes this time. The land lady warned me that they dryer (BRAND NEW GE) didn't work very well. Is it because it's gas? Or is it the dryer? What should I do becuase I can't be trying to dry clothes for hours like that. I plan on getting a new (probably used) dryer. What should I do? Should I get another gas heavy duty dryer? Or should I just get a heavy duty Electric dryer? Which is best? I just need a dryer that will dry clothes in about 45-60 minutes MAX!
Is the house equipped for electric and gas or just gas? I'm partial to electric dryers, but there are several good gas dryers out there. Kenmore and Whirlpool makes great ones, in my opinion. Dani
Dani is right. I just scrapped a 3 yr old GE for a new Whirlpool which has the best consumer ratings. It drys a full load in 30 mins or less. GE is the WORST brand of appliance.
Your dryer is broken. There is no reason for it (gas or electric) to take 90 minutes to dry clothes. However, just because its broken doesn't mean it needs to be replaced outright (unless you want to, of course). What I would do is open up the yellow pages and call a GE service tech to come out to do a free estimate. It might just need a $50.00 heating element or some other doohicky then will be fine. Much cheaper than a new one. Heck, if you're renting, suggest that to the Landlady. Good luck, Myschae
Thanks all....no new dryer needed Thanks for your advice but I located the problem. To make a long story short, the way the dryer was vented is what caused the long drying time. I can't quite explain it but when PG&E came to check my furnace, he looked at it and said that the dryer was vented to underneath the house but it was totally blocked because it went in the wall and then made a 90 degree angle down to under the house. So he just pulled the vent hose out of the wall and let it just vent in the garage and it dried clothes in like 40 minutes!
