Hi all, Quick recap: Had account with Comcast...when I moved (1 hour away) they didn't come pick up their equipment...started getting collection letters from CMI for the Comcast account...went to get my mortgage and they said I had to clear up the account...took the equipment back to Comcast (1.5 hours away)..found out that there was a balance on the acct(I didn't rememeber any unpaid balance, and everytime I talked to them, it was about the equipment) but I needed my letter so I paid it...little while later I got letter from CMI saying Comcast told the them account was paid and CMI would update acct. with CRAs..I NEVER DEALT WITH CMI, but now I have a paid collection with CMI showing up on my report!!! Present time: I sent nutcase letter #1 CRRR to CMI for an account that I had with Comcast..got back a letter CRRR from them -- "My office is in receipt of your letter regarding above referenced account. I contacted our client Comcast Communications, and advised them of your letter. Comcast advised this account was for service at XXXXXX. The service was installed in XXXXX. Comcast requires verification in the form of a lease and/or utility bill for 19XX, if you did not reside at the service address. The account was submitted to our office for collection on XXXXX, 1999. The equipment was returned and the service balance paid on XXXXXX, 2000. A request was sent to the national credit bureaus to update this account as paid in full" -- I wanted some advice before I sent Nutcase letter #2. On my CR, the paid collection is for the balance and the equipment, but I only paid them for the balance and turned the equipment in. Isn't that being reported wrong? So isn't that grounds for removal. This is the only collection that I have on my account Any thoughts? Thanks gang, As always...
You might want to get in touch with comcast and tell them the ca is misreporting it as you paid them, not the ca, and you want it removed. Be nice at first, but, if they give you any crap, tell them they are reporting incorrect info in violation of the FCRA and you will use your rights as afforded by the FCRA to get this removed up to and including court if necessary. Other than that, I have no suggestions. At this point. PS - this is also that rare case where if it were me, I would contact by phone.
Do a search on Shery Beckham on this board. She the CMI Manager you need to get in touch with to get this removed. Stop nutcasing and send her an e-mail. You'll find she'll be easy to work with. Privately e-mail me if you want more info.
