Hey everyone, great board! I'm learning alot. I have a few questions regarding my credit report, disputes, etc. #1 - Hospital Bill w/ CA ($580) This is on both Experian and Equifax. Here's the details: Experian: Date Opened: 12/96 Reported Since: 8/97 Date of Status: 7/97 Last Reported: 12/2001 This account is scheduled to continue on record until 12-2003. Collection as of 12-2001. 8-1997. Equifax: Date Assigned: 12/96 Date Reported: 7/97 Balance Date: 7/97 Date Last Activity: 12/96 Status Date: 7/97 I just disputed this on Equifax as not mine and it came back verified. So my question: Since I disputed will it still drop off in 12-2003? What should I do with this? Which one of these dates does the 7 year clock go by? #2 Energy Bill w/CA ($130) I disputed this with Transunion as not mine and it was deleted. I made the same dispute with Equifax and it came back verified...what's the deal with that? Here's the Equifax details: Date Assigned: 6/98 Date Reported: 3/03 Balance Date: 3/03 Date Last Activity: 12/96 Status Date: 3/03 What should I do with this? Settlement letter, then if no deal send validation letter? Thanks, Eric
Eric, Is there any reason you can't wait until December to have it dropped off? Chances are it is past the SOL in your state so they cannot legally collect on it, and from what I've learned most CRA's will drop the items a few months before they are technically due to come off.
Shadowbox, There's no reason, I can wait. My concern was that since it was just verified by the credit agency that it was start the 7 year clock over and that I'd be better off justing paying it. If not, then I will wait until December.
It looks like these are past the SOL for collection. If you want them to come off before the SOL for reporting is up, just keep disputing every 2-3 months as "not mine," and then if any are left a couple of months before the 7 years is up, dispute as "obsolete." This will probably get them off a little sooner than waiting the full 7 years.
