All I have right now is Cap1 Visa secured - is there another card I can get pretty easily - I have chargeoffs, collections & tax lien.

What else should I get. Store card? mastercard?

    What is your score?

Experian is 564-presence of derog info -collctn, bk or chargeoff; avg length of time since accts were opened less than five years; application for credit made in past six months (two, by the way)

Equifax is 532-serious delinquency and public record or collection filed; amount owed on delinquent accounts; time since derogatory public record or collection is too short; time since delinquency is too recent or unknown

    Doody:

Is there anyone you know who let you be an authorized user on their account? It should give your scores a jump because the entire history of their account would be added to your credit report.... of course, make sure they've been current on the card and it's been open for at least 6 months (the longer, the better).

You need to be at 600+ before I think you're going to find anything un-secured. Have you tried any of the sub-prime cards advertised here on creditnet.com?

Well, my parents, I don't want to look pathetic by asking though. I suppose I might.

I take it you want an unsecured card?

Try getting one of the Associates gas cards. If you've never had any late accounts with them. From what I understand they do not report to the credit bureaus: which can be good or bad. I'm an AU on my brother's BP and Citgo cards. He got them just so I could have them, he is getting other gas cards for himself.

If you have six months of RECENT credit card positive history, try Chevron. You are only eligible for their cards with that history. I believe they do report.

Do not try Target, anything from Monogram Bank, Chase, MBNA, Citibank, WFNNB (Lane Bryant, Limited, etc.) any of the Household Bank retails (Best Buy, Comp USA, etc.) just yet.

Orchard is pretty good on approvals.

Don't go anywhere near Cross Country Bank. They suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not trying to be harsh :) but I know from personal experience that these banks usually do not give cards to people below 620 and I don't want you to waste inquiries :)

    Secured cards are fine, actually

    Then go to www.sterlingbank.com

I'll let you see the details there but they are VERY good to deal with and approval is guaranteed. You can also find my past Sterling raves on this board :)

That's a very interesting point about Chevron. They sent me their preapproved offer after about six months of Capital One and Providian history. Plus I had about six years of Citibank history.

Yeah, I wrote through PF asking why they didn't offer me their credit builder's card. The guy wrote back and explained I couldn't qualify for the regular or credit builder without six months of recent, positive, revolving credit card history.
