I have the Citi Pla Select card and need to BT other CC whose BT offers are expiring soon. I opened the Citi card last October and usually have paid 3X minimum payment and have always carried a balance. In looking at the Citi web site, I see that they are now offering 9 months 0% BT offer on Platinum Select which I'm interested in getting. However, last time that I called Citi to inquire about BT offers, the best that they gave me was 6.9%, 6 months, no fees. Basically, I was told that the 0% BT offers are reserved for new applications only.
Can anyone offer suggestions/advice on how to convince Citi to give me the 0%BT offer?
Also, should I pay off my balance before requesting the transfer or is it best to maintain a balance on my card?? Should I call retention dept or CS??
    Thanks!!

    1. Move the balance to another equally low rate card.

    2. Write the Office of the President via PlanetFeedback.Com and state that you "really like your Citi card and want to remain a long time customer with Citi but you think that it is not really fair for brand new customers with no demonstrable Citi history to get the best BT rates (0%) - whereas you, a proven Citi customer, can only get 6.9% for 6 months. You think history and account loyalty should stand for something." Sound highly irritated and betrayed - but professional.

    3. If PFB doesn't work, try retention direct (1-888-444-2568) and see if they can get you below the 6.9% for 6 months. They should be at least able to take you to 4.9% for life or 9 months. Rentention will NOT give you 0% on your current card unless you have an invitation code # for preapproval for a new 0% card.

    4. If none of this works - then apply for a new PS card with the 0% offer. If rejected write and call for reconsideration. Once approved, move any CL off of the old PS to a new card, combine the old and new PS under the new PS account number, and then BT for 0% back to the new PS.

    5. Call retention to reverse the BT transaction fee - they will do this if you get the right person.

DISCOVERCARD does the same thing...give NEW customers better rates than customers who have been with the company for 10 years!!!

    Thanks for the advice.
Today, I called Citi CS and requested 0%BT as well as lower APR (current 9.9%fixed). CS department lowered my APR to prime+1.99 and offered 5.9%BT with no fees for life of card. I took the lower APR, but declined BT offer. I will try PFB and then retention.

    Thanks again.
