I'm in a weird spot right now. I'm in the process of fixing my boyfriends credit report. What has happened is that his mother had a Home Depot and a Sears account that both got charged off. Which is fine, this is her stuff not his. The only problem is that my boyfriend and his father share a name. Well his father had been added as an Authorized User on both of those accounts. Of course with his luck they ended up on my BOYFRIEND'S credit report even though he was 12 years old at time of opening the account. I know that the 2 things that are going to work in my favor getting this deleted from his CR is his SSN and Age at time of opening. My question is: Should I first just argue "these are not mine" without saying anything about his father being the REAL authorized user on these accounts? OR Should I also add in my first letter that the real AU on these accounts should be his father and that they are his mothers accounts! I just need to know what to respond to them with if I decide to just go with "not mine" and they reply with you are an authorized user on this account. Should I then send them a letter that says no, you are looking for my dad not me?
I would start as a "not mine - belongs to another" and leave it at that. If the OC's verify, then you can go after them.
For almost every situation you encounter in credit repair, it's best to start out vague, then add specifics as necessary.
FYI similar situation with same name. you first want to contact the CRA and dispute the account as not mine but ALSO tell them you have a MIXED FILE. that these accts may have only been verified with the name and address the CRA did this to me, you need to tell them to verify the DOB SS# ect. as well. this will help get these accts deleted instead of verified. good luck
