    Hi,

    I applied At&T wireless and they said that I do have to pay $200.00 deposit. I do have sprint pcs. I know that they pull EFQ. My fico is 651 . They pulled EFQ for freind last week.

    From Mills cbs I saw you can be approved by 571. My firend had 620 and he got approved.

    How come they denied me, any idea? Please advise.

    thanks

    VERIZON will not charge a deposit and they pull TU. I'd call ATT and tell them VZ is offering free set up;
    they need to match the offer of you will not activate!

    They did not deny you - they are just trying to get new money. Cingular charges deposits also.

    later - dogman

    As of late, cellular companies are tightening their credit policies. They had very loose credit guidelines before to gain market share. Now they are wanting to make sure they limit their exposure to bad debt.

    I had 4 recent charge-offs (less than a year old) when i got a verizon acct in 2001, but i don't know what my score was at the time. It's now about 600 @ TU, with the same chargeoffs, 2 years old. I ordered my first verizon account online and paid for everything with a credit card.

    I recently opened a second account and they didn't pull credit for it. While i was opening #2, a lady came in who was told a $200 deposit about 2 months prior and her deposit went to $1000 when she came back. I don't know if they pulled her credit again and it was worse, or if the $200 deposit was the max for opening accounts immediately and a higher amount is used if you don't accept it at the time of the initial application.

    Do any cell providers report your cell account to the bureaus? I've had AT&T for years, and I know that my AT&T account used to be on there but it disappeared completley ~6 months ago.

    I had always assumed that a wireless account looks something like a charge account, and having one with a couple years of good payments would have to be good. I was a little upset when it disappeared.
