I received a pre approved offer from them today for an unsecured Visa Gold card...is this legit? Does anyone have experience with them? Steph
Steph, Run far, far away. The only place that preapproval letter should be sent to is the shredder. Dani
Stay as far away from Crosscountry as you can get! Do a search on this board. You'll find all kinds of info. CCB is notorious for all kinds of deception and questionable practices. They will fail to post timely payments, claim they were never received and sock you for a $27 late fee. Then, when you send in a replacement payment, this crooked organization will post both payments to your account. The card fees they charge are outrageous! Even if you're desperate for credit, don't accept a card from Crosscountry! Donna
RUN FOREST RUN!! I have charge-off from them. Erroneous too! They failed to post three of my payments, yet they cashed the checks. When I called them on it they said the entire amount was due. ($500 + fees). I paid them right away. They said they would "fix" the error of the never posted but cashed payments. I paid card in full, then told them to close my account. They did, and then added "Charge Off". Bas*ards!
Cross Country sucks!!! I am in a current dispute with them with THEM being at fault! I went the PF route hoping for some resolution TWICE and I have still to hear from them! Throw it away!
I have had ccb since March99. I haven't had any problems with them losing payments. The intial fees are very high. They gave me credit when no one else would, I can't complain. I would go with Providian or Cap1. The only subprime card I had problems with was Direct Merchants Bank. Hope this helps.
Go to these websites and you will see the horror stories: http://www.jerrydj.com/CCB/ http://www.thecomplaintstation.com (here click on C, scroll down to Cross Country Bank and click the link.
I have had a card with them since may of 98. I had some problems with the late fees for a couple of months because I was mailing the payment in close to the due dates and they claimed to have not received them until the day after the due date. Since then I have just paid online, and the payment shows the next day. The fees are indeed outrageous, however I have had better luck as of late. I called them about an increase, and this was after 2+ years of never late payments. They wanted to charge me the standard $100 increase fee for a $350 dollar increase. I asked to speak to the reps mgr about this because I thought it was silly, since I had gotten inreases of $500 and $750 in the past. After some haggling to no avail. I kinda threw a nutty on the mgr and ended the conversation by telling him I was mailing a lump payment for the full balance and he could take his card and stick it in his....the I hung up. The next day I go online to check my balance, and I mysteriously had $500 added to my credit line and no charge for doing so. Maybe they are starting to listen to some of the negative feedback, maybe not. I would call my opinion of them lukewarm to this point.
Recka, When they allege that payments are late and adding fees, what are they telling the credit bureaus about it? And do they report to all 3? Steph
Actually it's kind of odd. When i started the credit repair process just a few weeks ago, I was worried about what might be on my reports from them. This late payment scenario had happened two or three times in 98, and one time the late fee pushed me over my limit, so I got hit with an overlimit fee too. However, the account is listed on my Exp and TU reports as on time never late. It does not show at all on my Equifax, but most of my accounts don't (only the bad ones of course). So CCB is actually a positive tradeline for me, except for the fact that I am using like 85% (for now) of my available credit with them.
Recka, I hope I am not being too intrusive, but do you mind sharing with me what your beginning credit limit was, what shape your credit was in, and what the credit limit is now? if you don't want to share I understand but I'm trying to see both sides of the issue so I can decide. Steph
BTW Steph, I am in no way endorsing CCB. In fact I have learned in the short time I have been reading on this board that these folks know what they are talking about. If the consensus says stay away, I would heed their advice. I was just relaying my personal personal experience, and it's looking like I'm getting off good compared to a lot of people.
I believe I started at $750, I had ok credit. I had a couple of small loans that were all on time. Also had a couple of derogs too. My limit right now is $3350.
Well, low and behold as soon as I posted that I had gotten no response from CCB after I posted twice on PF, i got a letter in the mail today saying they were giving me back 2 over the limit fees and 2 late payments..total $116. I guess that is better than nothing, but if you have a choice of a card, I still would NOT go with them
