Hello all, I am new to this board and postign for the first time, as I have an issue with Verizon and I am hoping to get some advice on how to handle it. I was a verizon customer for 13 years. I always had my cell phone and my wifes cell phone through them, and I also had my home phone and interrnet through them. Earlier this year I discovered that I could save substantial monies every month by moving to a different carrier for all of my services. I did this and cancelled my contracts with verizon. I immediately paid all current charges, any cancellation fees etc. I even called them to confrim I was paying the correct amount. several months later i received a bill with no explanation for an amount i believe it was like $220. The bill had no explanation for what the charge was so I called verizon to see what was up. they told me it was for remaining data charges on my cell phone bill, which I found to be suspect at best. i asked for documentation of the charges so I could investigate. I received a bill about a month later, decided that it would be easier to just pay the charges rather than go through the hassle of disputing etc. mainly because I DID NOT want my credit affected. So I paid the bill in full. Now, verizon is reporting on my credit report that I was 90 days late on my bill. I called and explained the situation to the customer service number listed on my credit report and was treated as though i was a liar and essentially told to pound salt. I asked to speak with a manager. i was told that a manager would call me within 4 hours, no such call came. I would really like for this info to be deleted from my credit report. im my 13 year history with this company my bill was never so much as 1 day late. now that i am no longer with them they seem to be using this misunderstanding as an opporunity for retribution for me going to a different carrier. it is very unfair in my opinion. Can anyone give me some insight/advice on how i can handle this situation and hopefully get this negative mark removed from my credit report?
Did Verizon charge off your account too? My understanding was that Verizon didn't report to the CRAs until they closed an account and charged it off. Maybe that's changed recently, but I haven't heard of other examples like yours yet so I'm a bit surprised they hit you with a late pay. My recommendation is to take your fight off the phone and put everything in writing. If you want, you can try the phone route one more time and really push to get a supervisor on the phone that has the authority to actually do something for you. That can be difficult to do with a company like Verizon though. You may receive a different response if you write a Goodwill letter (send it CMRRR) explaining that you were a loyal customer for 13 years and never made a late payment. Explain the situation briefly and ask that they remove the late pays as a gesture of goodwill. They don't have to do anything, but you may get lucky. Fingers crossed...
