In November of 1999 I signed for a computer through gateway for my mother due to her credit problems. (Big mistake.) It went into my name, but the bills were sent to her. Unfortunately she never let me know that she was REALLY slow paying on it. Finally MBNA sends me an urgent telegram to my address saying that this bill is overdue by 4 1/2 months! The loan balance is 800 dollars more than the orginal amount & after pulling my credit report I see them reporting 7 30 day lates (6 dates unknown), 3 60 days late (all three dates unknown) & 6 90+ days late (4 dates unknown). This is effecting my scores dramatically & I need help trying to figure out what I should do. Thanks to a couple of posters yesterday I was able to get a couple of addresses to write to, but I am not sure what to write. What should I do? Any advice? The unknown dates the agencies are reporting are throwing me off. Does this mean there is no proof for some of the lates they are reporting? Is there anything that I can do since the bills were being sent to a different address? Should I try to write a plea letter? HELP!
Well if you stole owe them money, I'd pay them first. Once you have paid them, you might try a goodwill letter to get the lates removed. You are still responsible for the payments since you purchased the computer. I'm not sure the different address makes a difference b/c if you pay for something and have the bills sent somewhere else, it is your responsibility to verify with that person that they are paying.
Re: Need Help Dealing With MBNA Lat I am paying them in a timely fashion now. The debt is really large now, so I cannot pay it all at once, but I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to send them a letter now.
