I received a call the other day from a professional sounding gentleman representing Advantage Plus MasterCard. He said I had been approved a $2500 credit limit. Said it was a 0% APR unsecured card. Now â??For the rest of the story.â? I live in one of the Francis disaster area in FL. Normally red flags would have gone off all over the place. Why would someone want to give anyone with my credit rating a $2500 0%APR Unsecured. Unfortunately with the storm having only passed 3 days prior I wasnâ??t thinking clearly and thought that it would really help with things. (Iâ??m one of the fortunate who still has a job to go to, but I live on a barrier island and missed a lot of work with the evacuation.) Without thinking about anything else, these SOBâ??s got me on tape giving them my account information and permission to draft $339 from my account on the 20th. Later I got thinking about it and something just didnâ??t feel right. I checked the BBB and a couple consumer protection sites. The BBB has over 70 complaints all stating the exact same script they gave me. None of the complaints have received any response from the company. I checked a couple consumer protection sites and there are multiple complaints again. Has anyone had any experience with these guys? Also for any of the legal personas reading. Since I am in one of the disaster zones, should I contact the States Attorney or Attorney General Fraud line or anything? Sincerely, Mac P.S. yep, actually contact the local police, and county prosecutors office, close the bank account, and re open it somewhere else. and also , call the company that notified you and tell then you no longer want their offer. Its called profiteering. and its illegal. btw what was the 339 dollar payment for, had u charged something ?
Contacted the local S.O. apparently since the money has not yet been transferred no crime has been committed. Thatâ??s a shame, I was hoping for some good Profiteering charges to shut these SOBâ??s down. I contacted the bank and changed my account number. Itâ??s a pain in the back side, but at least no real harm has been done. Thanks for the quick responses, looking back on this whole thing I feel like Homer Simpsonâ?¦. DOHHH!!!!!!!!
