Hello- We are working on getting my fiances credit cleared up. He has a judgment that he is paying in full. The lawyer said that he would be willing to get it removed from his credit report if it was a simple enough process. He doesn't know how to go about it though. Does anyone know what the lawyer can do to have this removed, step by step. Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Judgments are hard to remove if there is no question about whose it is. Normally, once it is paid, a satisfaction of judgment is filed with the court. The credit bureaus pick this up and report that the judgment is satisfied. Still, it remains on the report. To get around this, ask the lawyer to prepare a stipulation to set aside the judgment and dismiss the case and present it to the court. The judge will agree to it since everyone wants this to happen. Get a copy of the judge's order and present it to the credit bureau. Then it gets deleted.

Could this be done on a state tax lien also?

I don't know. You could try negotiating for that.
