I have been reading this forum off and on for about two years. I have never really had the need to post because the information I need is usually readily available. But this time, I'm hoping to get some help from the best before I goof up.

I am in the middle of a mortgage process and building a new home. I checked my CR on PG on Friday and noticed that a collection account has been placed on my EXP report by Progressive Management Systems for $80. I called them and discovered that it was for an old long forgotten MCI long distance bill. I am more than willing to pay for a deletion. I called MCI and they said that the account has been transferred and they can not help.

I called Prog. again and told them that I had never received any correspondence from them requesting payment, they say that it was mailed on 12/29. I never received a thing!! The spvsr said since her records show that it was mailed to the correct address she had no grounds for deletion. I said thank you and prepared my validation letter. I mailed it on Monday and have not received my green card back yet.

Today in the mail I received bill from Prog. that states "This letter will acknowledge your promise to pay and our agreement to accept a payment on this account". It says the due date is tomorrow (3/19).

Should I call them and try to negotiate, or what for the validation period?

Tough call, normally i would say send them a debt validation and see what comes of it, however if your in a time crunch you might just have to suck it up and pay the $80. Its not worth paying a higher intrest rate on a 30 year mortgage just because of one $80 collection.

In yesterday's mail I received a letter from Progressive stating that they have received my request and they are working on it. I have not received my green card back yet.

Is there anyone that can help?

    Do I dispute now?

That's why you never CALL or TALK to a CA. Mail them a letter saying you never agreed to pay, and that you are still awaiting validation. Tell them that all future communication must be in writing.

Mail that certified, return receipt as well.
