Hello, I have a question here: I disputed a check on my CR that had been turned over to collections. Before the CRA even updated the status to remains (EXP) I had a letter trying to collect, and a copy of the check. It is in a misspelled name, and from a bank account and bank I have Never had! Apparently They are an advertising agency, and the check was for advertising space in their newspaper. Seeing as it is definitely NOT mine, which letter should I send to them to tell them it is DEFINITELY not mine. I can also include a copy of my DL to show them the misspelled name, and different state the check is from. At the same time, what do I do since the CRA supposedly verified this info? It may be interesting to contact the bank and see if the account number on the check ever actually existed and if so, who owned it. If the account never existed then try to get a statement on the bank's letterhead to that effect. HTH, Brett
Send a copy of the check to the CRA with a copy of your DRIVERS LICENSE and tell them this is not you and you never did business with that company or that bank... Wait 30+5 days and see what happens... USE CERTIFIED R/R
Thanks very much for both of the replies. I called the CA today and actually spoke to the owner instead of the Jr Schmuck that would normally handle my case. He was the NICEST CA I have ever dealt with! He didn't even ask for a phone number ( I called from a prepaid Calling card from a payphone to prevent phone numbers from showing) I sent him a copy of my DL via fax, and he said since the name does not match, he will have them deleted from all three CRA's! He even sent a letter stating this via fax. I think I just died and went to heaven, this was the easiest delete yet! Thanks again. Bryan
