Hello, I am new to this site, I have been trying to rebuild and fix my credit for about 1 month. I filled BK in 2003. I have a school loan that just went onto my credit report last month, I got behind when going thru a messy divorce and I could not afford to pay, they didn't care and would not take anything but the full balence due, of 1800.00. Now they have sent it to a CA, I tried to apply for a mortgage loan and got denied because of this loan being sent to CA, they said to call the Original creditor and ask them to reastablish the loan, I called and they said no right away, that they can't do that. I don't know what to do now.
There is a way to "rehabilitate" the loan. Meaning if you make 12 on time payments over 12 months, they will reinstate the good standing of the loan. Student Loans are non-dischargeable in any bankruptcy proceeding unless you can prove extreme undue hardship. Try the Ombudsman in your state for the "rehabilitation" procedures.
Did an internet search for "student loan rehabilitation" and found this link.... http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/DCS/rehabilitation.html You may find it interesting
Thanks for your reply, So do I just start sending the payment to them, even though they say they can't do this, do I send in the same amount that I had to pay before?
