I am helping a friend with his credit repair and I have some questions. He is a JR. and has the exact same full name as his father did. His father past away in 1999 from lung cancer. All of the CRA's have merged his report with his fathers (mostly the bad stuff). His report is full of medical collections and a couple negitives. CE has his score of 490!!!! It should be perfect as the only things that belong to him are 3 possitive accounts. What is the best way to handle this? Also another medical collection just showed up yesterday (not his) and they have never sent any letters ect. Can they do that?
Donna, my fiance is a jr too. Experian had a little of his fathers stuff, like his mother was listed as his wife. Equifax had some of his fathers judgements, and Trans Union had tons of his fathers stuff. With Experian, we disputed his fathers stuff as "not mine" This was the easiest to clean up. With Equifax, we spent about a year disputing the judgements as not mine, and they finally came off. With TU, the most messed up, we went them a letter stating that it appeared that his credit file was merged with someone elses, and then we listed all the accounts, chargeoffs, collections, judgements , etc that were not his. They removed all but one in the first try. They did not remove an closed Amex charge account, but his history is kind of thin, and the account was not negative, so we just left it. Hope this info helps.
